Dreamweaver Tutorials

Wow, I got my Studio MX a week ago and just opening Dreamweaver I can see that it ain't no where near cheesy like Frontpage. I don't really know where to start. but I'm certainly anxious to get started using it.

I am going to download the free tutorial from the Macromedia site (they sure do have a lot of user resources). And was thinking about the Dreamweaver visual quickstart guide. But I was wondering if anyone had good experiences with any other tutorials or can refer me to some really good resource books.

Also, if you can recommend some stuff for Flash or any of the rest of the Studio MX software (fireworks, freehand, coldfusion) I would be forever grateful.

Studio MX is awesome. I got it a couple of months ago, and have been pretty stoked on it. I used to use Front Page about 3 years ago, but then I made the transition to Dreamweaver and it has made a world of difference. Congratulations on your purchase.

With all that said, there are a few helpful resources out there. The first thing is the tutorial that comes built in the applications. I learned how to use Fireworks with the tutorial that is built in, so I can tell you that it is pretty decent. I have tried the tutorials from other books as well and they were not as straightforward nor informative as the one that comes built in. Give that a shot.

I plan on purchasing this book in the near future. I have read some good things about it:

One thing that is really cool is Dreamweaver Exchange. Basically you let all the Dreamweaver geeks do the work for you. They come up with cool little apps that you can download and run on your Dreamweaver, minus all the messy hand coding. Check it out:

Most of them have little "wizards" that will walk you through the installation process. It's really quite easy, just make sure you have Extensions Manager installed or it will not work.

As far as Flash, I'm still working on that. But here is a good resource to see what super Flash geeks are working on these days:

I will definately check it the apps tutorials and probably start there (and I can save myself some money, too) :D.

Re: the book. Yes, let me know what you think. What's great is that the author is going to put user resources on the site to go with the book and there's a discussion group as well. It's nice to have a really good resource book on hand.
