Which of the 2 do you think is best? Please comment on both hardware and games. I also notice you have to buy an extra "kit" in order to play DVD movies on the Xbox. Although it's $30, Microsoft don't give you nothin for free.

i vote gamecube too...wait, i mean i vote option 3.
to me, gamecube games are, plain and simple, more fun. playstation and xbox may have games that LOOK better but gamecube is more of a party machine. i get bored of 1 player games rather quickly so it's great to have a system where friends can join in on the fun.
but then again, i think online gaming can/will change my rationale.

The reason I'm attracted to Playstation is because they SEEM to have more tactical-military/secret mission type games (I don't know why, but I love playing those). But I haven't played the others.
Does gamecube have games like Metal Gear Solid and Medal of Honor?

You won't have to worry about which console has which game series. Just a thought. :)
My bf is forever playing war-type games on his comp ... CounterStrike, Half Life, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942, No One Lives Forever 2, Black Hawk Down, America's Army Recon, Soldiers Of Anarchy, Sudden Strike 2, WW2 Frontline Attack, ad nauseum. Enough war games for ya?
I like adventure games so I'm into the GameCube for Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, and Luigi's Mansion, of course. :P

PC 4 ever!
Am I the only one who sees that consoles are turning into mini computers now a days? Graphics, games, they've all been done already on the computer while console is catching up. Internet games on Halo! Wow! We have the net already :P (I really do wish Halo came out for pc and Bungee didnt sell out to Microsoft, was supposed to be able to support 64 people if I remember correctly..in the old days)
My friend is totally into consoles, he spent what..maybe near $900 on ps2, xbox, and gamecube, with accesories. Thats a top end PC there, with extra money for better games than a console could ever offer.
Pc rules, everyone knows it...if you deny it then you probly have a p2 with a vodoo 2000 or something w/ 56k modem:bigmouth:

It's all about the games. Period. There's not much difference between each console, other than the PS2 being older. By the way, Microsoft has a $30 rebate for the DVD kit, making it free. http://www.xbox.com/rebate/default.htm
The cube has the traditional Nintendo games, Zelda, Mario, etc. They do have really fun multiplayer games (see Mario Party 4[b/]) along with some great adventure games ([b]Eternal Darkness, Res Evil remakes). While people point and laugh at the Cube being a kiddie toy, it's actually a great machine with a great library.
The PS2 is old technology, but it has one of the best game libraries available for every kind of game. From Madden to Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy X to Metal Gear Solid 2. While a lot of games that appear on the PS2 will appear on the other consoles, the best thing about the PS2 is the exclusive games it will be getting in the next 6 months. These games include the Final Fantasy Games (so far, though it might appear somewhere else), Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts, and much more.
The Xbox is the best technology out there, but it's exclusive library is fairly bad, though it will get better. MechAssault and Panzer Dragoon Orta are just the two that are highly anticipated. The games that are on all three consoles will look the best on the Xbox, and with the hard drive, you don't need a memory card.
If you play a lot of games that are available on all three consoles, then get an Xbox. If you're interested in those exclusive games on the PS2, then get that. If you like the Nintendo exclusive games, then get the cube. It all depends on what games you like. However, there is no "best" console.
And those guys who say PC gaming is the best. There are a lot of games that you can't play on the PC that are on consoles and are must plays for any gamer (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Mario Sunshine). Conversely, there are games on the PC that you can't (or shouldn't) play on consoles. Halo, though one of the best games on the Xbox, is one of those games I will not touch until it hits the PC. Basically, don't think that being a PC gamer makes you superior to console gamers. I'm both and I think if you love games you have to be both. The same goes for console gamers.
But back to the issue at hand, you want tactical games? Well, the PS2 currently has Metal Gear Solid2, and MGS2 Substance later on. Also, they have SOCOM which looks to be the console version of Counterstrike and every reviewer is raving about it. You also have Medal of Honor Frontline, but that's more of a FPS than a tactical game. You also have access to all those PSOne tactical games, but I'm not going into those. The Xbox will have MGS2 Substance later this year, but they will also have Splinter Cell. Xbox will also have Frontline. The Cube has Frontline, but I think that's about it. The Cube is lacking in this genre.
The PC, however, is loaded. It has Counterstrike and a lot more SWAT/SEAL team type games. No MGS2 type games though. I'll let Blitz go into more of these kinds of games.
So it's a toss between the Xbox and the PS2. Exactly what do you mean by tactical-military/secret mission type games?

Though I agree on Halo and Bungie being utter sellouts, I have to disagree on the rest. PCs are great for remote multiplayer games and single player games, but for party or multiplayer games with other people who are actually beside you then consoles rule in that aspect. PLUS there are a lot of games on the console that are much better than some of the tripe on the PC. However, that statement is true the other way.
Like I said in my other post. Don't think consoles are beneath you in some way. In some aspects, PCs are superior, in others consoles are superior, but when it comes to gaming, it's just about the game and which platform its on.

PlayStation 2.

Playstation has the contract with SquareSoft who has a huge following. Nintendo used to have one with Square but it got messed up. I love the Final Fantasy series as well as a ton of other games and that's why I like Playstation better. Plus, just look at my name... lol. My second choice is Gamecube. Nintendo has been in the business for a long time and they know how to make a console. :)

sonyguy chooses sony, what a suprise.:P
my favorite is also sony, i like thier current selection of games and thier controller is probably the best ever created. unfortunately i havent had time to play enough GC, but thier games look absolutely amazing. i havent played anything on xbox that ive been exstatic about, but that has a lot to do with thier sucky control. you can port a great ps2 game to xbox and the controller will screw everything up.
on a side note, sony may give you the dvd player free, but if you really want to watch movies you should buy the sony remote, which will set you back at the most $20. it gives you so many more features than any other remote ive seen except controller passthrough :(.

I may also go the PC route in the future, maybe. I don't know if I'd get that much into it though. Plus, I played Tomb Raider on my PC and I like using a controller better, but that's just me. I just want to be able to get away from the computer when I'm playing my games (I'm on it so much already and my chair makes my booty hurt sometimes :D ), at least I can relax on the couch in front of my TV with a console.

Very few pc gamers upgrade every 6 months. The best part about pcs are one from a year ago can still play the newest games. You may not get full screen antialiasing, buit you dont get that with xbox either. I think a pc has a much longer "cutting edge gaming" life than a console.

another downside of pc gaming is standization, some games work better with some hardware and others cause problems. consoles, all games will work with the hardware provided.
i still prefer pc gaming though, especially because games can be very easily modded and there are whole mod scenes dedicated to certain games. that really cant be done on console games, and if it can it requires special hardware (modchips and possibly a dvd burner)

Yeah Sony is actually pretty bad. They do the same bad things as Microsoft, but they have a good image. They shove things down the consumer's throat like Memory Sticks and mini discs which they wouldn't let die until people actually were forced to use them. Minidiscs have been out for about ten years (correct me if I'm wrong) and even though it hasn't caught on, they keep pushing it.
Memory sticks came out when flash memory was popular, and when compact flash took hold, they still kept on pushing it.
Now Sony is making it's own DVDR standard and a different blue laser DVD standard than the rest of the market (again, correct me if i'm wrong)
Sony is actually evil, but they've done a better job at marketing it's image than Microsoft.

I believe if you read further down, I mention MGS2 Substance on the PS2 and Xbox.
Also, I believe that when they say you can play Snake on Raiden's level and vice versa, it's a feature, not a change in story line. I do remember they adding new story elements to the game however.
I don't think the dialogue in MGS2 was that bad. It could be much worse (see Mario Sunshine). The story was long, and even confusing. But it wasn't too annoying.
Oh and I believe MGS2 will have a giant new set of VR missions.

Most good games are on the PS2. The problem with that game system is that its very slow when it comes to loading time. Since it doesn't come with a lot of prepackaged hardware, you will end up play a lot for you memory cards, 4 player adapters or maybe a modem for online play. Also, its DVD player is out of date. The quality isn't that good. From what I've noticed. The graphics on the PS2 are slightly behind those of the Xbox and gamecube. Gamecube as mentioned before is high on the party machine and fun factor. It is of course geared towards a younger crowd though. Most of their games are cartoony compared to those of the PS2 and Xbox.
The xbox would be my game system of choice if I were to get one. And I might be in the near future. Its got good hardware, lots of potential, its fast. Comes with lots of standard hardware that PS2 doesn't. DVD player is better. The biggest problem with it is that not many quality games are out for it. The system is about 1 year old now yet I can't even pick more than 10 games worth playing. But based on potential alone, its worth getting.

Not really, there's a huge amount of Xbox only games that are coming out by the end of this year. MechAssault, Panzer Dragoon, ..., some others...meh I forget, but those two should be worth something.
Besides, the Xbox is only good for the games that are available on all platforms, if you want them to look the best. Other than that, your best bet I guess is the PS2...

I heard the same thing. I believe they're just coming up with technical designs and specs.
The thing about doubling every 18 months is called Moore's law (i believe). In any case, it's often misquoted as speed doubling every 18 months, when in fact it's the number of transistors doubling every 18 months.

If you don't think their bad...well think about this. THEY are the ones who created Evercrack or formally Everquest, thats a bad word :P I used to play it, cant wait till the second one comes out..but Shadowbane will rule all of them :hmm:
Pc 4 ever-
Yes I agree that if you want to party real fast or what not, consoles are great...but ask who is it? Kfc? Who has a network party! Nothing is like going to a network party with 20+ to 64? people and playing Battlefield 1942, Warcraft 3, Quake 3, Counter Strike, or Soldat?:P Really if you want a party, pc is the way to go. And don't complaing about moving your computer, etc, cause its not all that bad you lazy bums. I love consoles, and I agree they are great...just plug and play..nice games..but pc have nice games too :heh:
Also..if you look in the past, almost every console reinvents themselves with a newer version every year or two..having you end up paying more for that newer console. I just stick emulators on the computer...I bet there are ones for X box and ps2 already, just gota look in the right places and don't ask me cause I wont tell you where to look.
Also, anyone want to play warcraft 3? I just joined my friends clan, the notorious " X clan ", also on starcraft...best clan ever on SC and will be on WC. Im an elite now  *pulls out his sword*
