If you ever read this thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=33630), you'd know that the bf and I are in the process of planning a wedding! :D
It's a pain planning an LA wedding when you're in the Bay Area, so I'm asking you guys and gals for some opinions, since there's so darned many of you in LA. :P We'd value input from everyone, though, so speak up!
The banquet hall has been booked for next summer (it needed to be done a year in advance! ), but my biggest stumbling block is finding a non-denominational church for the actual wedding ceremony thingamabob.
I'd like for it to be nice and in the Pasadena area. We'd also consider outdoor settings and other venues, like country clubs and the like. Any suggestions?
Thanks bunches! :D
I don't care, as long as I'm involved and I get to nail the bride :D
j/k :shifty:
I can't help with Church's But I know the Disneyland Hotel will do your entire wedding AND reception (you can get married in front of Snow White's Castle) for 100 people, food, music, champgne toast and corkage and like 5 hour for $10,000

Congrats!!
This might be the only thing I'll post about Cali since I've been living on the east coast and Texas for most of my life...
When I went to a wedding for my cousin last year in LA, they had it in a church that was near the coast and on a hill thingy. The church was unique as the top was made of glass and it had a great view of the ocean. It's a tourist attraction I think, but people get married there all the time...
I don't know what it's called so maybe you real Cali people can help this guy in DC out.
I remember because it was a great place.

There is a place here called CHICKEN CHALET, which is basically a small restaurant that flame broils chickens on rotiserries..There was a picture in the paper about 4 months ago-of a couple that got MARRIED there because that's where they had their first date.(awww)..OMG HELLO? THEY GOT MARRIED IN A FREAKIN CHICKEN RESTAURANT. THEY DIDNT EVEN RESERVE THE PLACE so other patrons were there eating at the time..how damn cheap. Get married on a beach, are there any Abbey's there? or Monasterys? those old places always look cool in wedding pictures (think sound of music wedding scene).

Sounds like you're talking about Wayfarer's Chapel. My cousin was married there so I don't want it to seem like I copied her. ;)

Lake Avenue Church is a Congregational Denomination, but I think its pretty close to non-denominational. They let preachers from other denominations preach and hold bible studies there, so they must be pretty flexible. If you live in Pasadena, you probably know where I'm talking about. It's on Lake and just NW of the 210 FWY.
You might want to see if Huntington Gardens/Library have an area where you can have a wedding. I know they hold "high tea" events there. It might be pricey though. http://www.huntington.org/.
Congrats!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's where he's talking about. I always said I wanted to get married there. If you like that place, I wouldn't worry about who got married there before. Hopefully, they wouldn't be immature enough to even think twice about it.
My friend and some people from her orchestra (she plays the violin) did a wedding on a yacht for one of her co-workers. I thought that was a neat idea. She said it was beautiful out there on the water...real classy. But it would have to be a relatively small wedding.
How big is the wedding and reception?
Wayfarer's Chapel is 5 minutes from my house. :)

BINGO That's it!
It's a good place and I agree with latingirl. If you like the place then get married there =)

You can't? I can't imagine that because its only a chapel. Hmmm.

wow juju, congrats! (a little bit late). i didn't know a wedding was in the works.
anyway, i would recommend the strip of sand on surfrider beach in malbu between the ocean and the lagoon. surfers on one side, pelicans and egrets on the other. absolutely beautiful :D
just hope birds don't poop on the guests' heads :heh:

That is true. You can have your own minister "participate" but they won't be allow to conduct the ceremony it seems. It is actually a Christian establishment though. However they do allow people of all religions to attend. Its around $1700+.
Juju,
how come you're coming down to LA to have your wedding? That's a tough plan isn't it? I know my sister planned hers from LA and had it in SD. That was tough enough.
Anyway, I wish I could suggest a few things for ya but since you're having your wedding in Pasadena so it'll be tough. I'm having mine in Garden Grove. So most places I visited were in the Sourthern LA/Orange County areas. If I were you, I'd have it outdoors. Its going to be summer so the weather will be nice. PV is a great area to have weddings, even if you don't have them in a chapel. Just bring your own minister.
The whole Disney Weddings is really nice...but they cost a lot. They even let you ride in with Cinderella's Crystal Pumpkin Carriage. Pretty neat huh? :)
Anywho. I think the Wayfarer's Chapel is nice. Its in a nice location and all. I guess its kind of weird to have it at the same place your cousin had it huh?
I found the SkyRose Chapel which is really nice too. BUT its on not in a good location (mortuary). Peopel get married there every weekend so I guess some people don't mind. But my folks are asian, and you know how they feel about the whole "dead people thing". :heh:
Anyway, I'll let you know what I can find.
So where's your reception gonna be at if you don't mind me askin'?

So where's your reception gonna be at if you don't mind me askin'? I'm originally from L.A., and my folks still live there. Their friends live in SoCal too, so my folks said it'd be *ahem* advantageous :kaching: to have it in L.A., if you know what I mean. It's a tough plan, but it's gotta be done. *shrug*
Wayfarer's is really nice, and I could care less about having it at the same place as my cousin ... but trust me, my cousin will. Big fat NO to the morgue idea - my folks would freak! :heh:
We'll be doing the Chinese banquet thing at a seafood restaurant in San Gabriel/Rosemead. I don't remember which one, but my dad knows the owner so he's cutting us a deal. :P

Most of the people we know don't want to wake up for the morning ceremony anyhow (they're there for the food in the evening :munch: ), so I don't think it'll be more than 100 people.

In the 16 years I've known her, she's been bombed over 20 times, and a few innocent people who've been walking next to her have been bombed (we're certain the birds were aiming for HER, though). So if we do the beach thing, we'll have to set up a canopy or get her a REALLY big, floppy hat. :heh:

does she have one of the far-side-style big red targets on her head (from the "how birds see the world" cartoon)? :heh:

Well, I might recommend my college's chapel just because of location and the fact that it is non-denominational, but it might not be aesthetically pleasing to your tastes. Some people think the campus and facilities are really nice, but I've spent far to much time there to really notice either way.
Anyway, it is about 5 minutes from Pasadena--on the West side--if you are interested.
