I just wanted to drop everyone a note to let you all know I will be
switching phone numbers. It is with much happiness that I will be severing all ties to Pacific Bell!! I can't begin to express how much I hate their service (or lack there of) and stupid fees.
I have decided to venture out into the 21st century and try a new type of phone service called VOIP (Voice over IP). For all you non-nerds out there it is basically a small device into which you plug your phone into one end and your high-speed internet connection into the other. The device digitizes the signal and then sends it out over the internet and finally ends up at the destination. Cool huh?
Now for those of you that are still reading...
I've had the service for 3 days now and am already in love with it! The signal is just as clear as normal analog phone, the setup was a breeze, and the features are superb! Let me just list a few:
With the small router (about 1/3 the size of your keyboard) I can take my number anywhere I go. I can unhook the router in California take it with me to Connecticut... and plug it in to any high speed connection and my same phone number works in CT.
I have call waiting, caller ID, voice mail, call forwarding, caller ID
blocking, area code of my choice, and free local, regional and long distance calling. Let me just reiterate... free long distance!! Hello!?
I have real-time account management where I can check my incoming calls, outgoing calls, and voicemails online. As well as forward my number to any phone number at anytime.
I went for the 500 minute plan for $19.99/month, but might upgrade to
unlimited for only $40/month (the Cisco TAT186 router is free!)
