TDKs are nice becuase they're japanese made and ghetto cheap.
Fujis would be good too since they're also japanese made and also ghetto cheap.
If I want data quality (longevity), I go PhthaloCyanine inks (Kodak Golds)...but those are prohibitively expensive. The AZO stuff by Mitsubishi (verbatim) and TDK's Metal-Stabilized Cyanine ink disks are worth a look at
My digital photos that I want to save are saved on those latter disks.

i like taiyo yudens, but ive only seen one disc with thier name on it. usually i see them with other company names on them, but you cant tell until you open up the package and id it. if i have something super important, or something i want to archive and keep for a long time i use kodak gold. those are really expensive, but in my experience ive had good burns at 24x on 8x rated media. this is not suggested, but i was in a hurry.

I like TDK becuase I get them for $15 for a 100 pack. I usually get ones and try them. If I like them, I keep using them. TDKs happen to be good AND cheap, so it works out great. Try different kinds out. It doesn't matter what brand they are or where they are made because in the end it is soley to your own discression.

I like Imation but PNY is the worse. Out of the spindle I've had some of the metallic thin sheet peel off and leave me with a shiny plastic frisbee and mylar like sheets everywhere. So no PNY...EVER!

The 80min ones I got from promedia, 15¢ each, work great at 40x. Audio and data.

taiyo yudens are the most saught after CDRs in the world. They do manufacture for other companies and several companies use more than one manufacturer, so it's hard to determine which are taiyo yudens.
I believe the way to find them is to find a black screw-on cap at the top of the spindle. Can someone confirm this?

Memorex are cheap... as in crappy cheap.
I agree with psycho- on his choices.

I haven't had any problems with PNY's, but I only record at 8X.(Approx 1000 burns). I tried burning at higher speeds with them but have lotsa problems. Maybe it is the media. I thought it was my computer.

What burner are you using?

I direct burn from a Plextor 14/32 SCSI to an HP 9100 8X burner, which gives me no problems. I also have a 12X Iomega and a Yamaha 24x burner, both of which give me problems. My processor is a Pentium II 400.
