Hey all - I just purchased a 5.1 system and I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to run speaker wires for the 2 rear speakers... I have woodfloors and I guess one option would be to buy an area rug, but that still wouldn't hide the wires totally... I was thinking maybe there is a wireless type option?

The other issue is that the room is shaped in a way that running the wires against the corners on the bottom of the wall or the cieling would be a pain b/c the wires would go around the whole apartment basically before reaching the spot where the speakers need to be.

Thanks for any suggestions/alternatives.

Well you have a couple of different options.

1. Use the baseboards...but as you said, you will use a lot of wire and run it around the entire room

2. Get a professional installer to run it through your ceiling. This will be very nice looking and not have any wires laying around.

3. wireless speakers are generally crappy...but they are an option.

4. Going with the carpet is another option.

Hope that helps.

yeah, I have the same problem....

for my left side - i just run it along the side - but doing that for the other side would be a pain in the butt.... - so I put it under my rug....

yeah, but if you want the cleanest look, the ceiling idea would be best...

don't know how expensive this is or if it's even out yet, but this would be a really cool alternative

White flat cabling and white tape would work. Just run it close to the floorboards along the wall.

even though i don't have wood floors, i had the same issue. i just ended up buying really long wires and running them all the way around the edge of the room.

it's the most convenient thing to do, and allows you to change your setup easily. also, it doesn't do any damage to the room, which is an issue if you're in an apartment.

just remember that for the long runs of wire to the rear speakers, you're going to want a thicker wire (lower gage) than you're using for the front wires (of course, i didn't find that out until after i had my wires installed :disa: )

That's what I did for my rear speakers. I used the Monster Cable SuperFlat (http://www.monstercable.com/home_av/audio_cables/iow.asp) and ran it up along my Crown Molding near the ceiling, because I had to go over a sliding glass door. The flat, white cable blends in perfectly and is hardly noticeable. Along a baseboard, it would all but disappear. It's pretty good cable, too...:D
