Hey, my uncle says that there is a special on the chevy ventra and the chevy impala. Both are selling for around 16 thou, base model with a few little extras here and there( chevy have many of its options as standard equipment on its cars). So for 16 thou which should i go for? minivan or big-sedan(IMPALA is BIG).

Screw mini-vans, unless you're some kind of soccer mom or something (not meant to be negative http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) go for the imapla. Its not that big these days.
BTW, this is a little off topic.

True this is a little off topic but since they're both for 16 thou i was also wondering which is a better deal. impala msrp (base)is about 19 thou, van msrp(base) is close to 22 thou. Van seems like a better deal but i stillkinda want to check it over with you guys. Once again, I know its kinda off topic so dont kill me please.

guess it depends on what you intend to use it for !

i'd say minivan...you'd probably get more utility out of it...it seats 7...and also..
i think insurance companies give lower rates on minivans vs. sedans..so it's a win-win situation!
Lets make this a deal then,
Get the MiniVan and Ebay it ($5k below MSRP should be a money maker) do that a few times and the Impala will be free to you. But make sure you get the popular colors, I would hate for you to get to the reserve price.

The Venture has far more interior room than the Impala, which I might add, is not a large car itself.

I just bought an Olds Silouhette which is based on the Chevy Venture chassis. I can personally vouch that it is a terrific vehicle. Seat removal alone is an outstanding benefit. Last I checked you can't take the seats out of an Impala (by yourself at least).

I also think Mini-van is the way to go but if you are concerned with parking and rally don't need to move much then go for impala..
then agian a van would be great for the trips to Home Depot http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif hehe
p.s. this is really way OT expecially since u marked it survey http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Good god, enough about the SVX already! Listen, the only cool thing about that POS is that you can open the windows when it's raining! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif Seriously, is that thing still hangin' together alright? I heard Subaru's from those years were not the best made...

I vote MINI-VAN! If you have lots of buddies, kids or family - it's definately the way to go. I love my van because it's roomy, solid, and comfortable! Good-luck!

Thanks guys, just wondering, Do any of you have exp with GM cars (chevy, pontiac, oldsmobile, GMC). My neighbor keeps teling me to go japanese. Yea i know that american cars sucked really bad a few years ago( I have a 87 Plymouth Sundance thats falling apart(believe it or not, the cam shaft broke)) so i'm really hoping the american car companies cleaned up their act. Whats your exp with GM, pontiac, chevy, etc.

I've never heard good things about pontiacs, but I've driven American heavy metal (i.e., tahoes, expeditions, drive a durango now) and have been very happy with their solidity. That's the biggest thing I notice in comparison to Japanese: American cars just feel more solid. Maybe that's a function of being about a ton heavier than any Japanese car, but I used to own a Trooper, and while it was pretty solid, the American cars just inspire more confidence that it'll stand up to the punishment that we all know we dish out!

I got a 1996 Chevy S-10 with about 56,000 miles on it, the only major problem that I had so far is the AC. And I do lived in Arizona, so I need that badly, other than that, no problem so far.

Hmmm.... I go to lan parties a lot so I probably would like the mini-van. Impalas are pretty sweet, though.
What I would really like to tote my computer around is this (http://www.hennesseymotorsports.com/cgi/store/commerce.cgi?page=12.html&cart_id=5694641_5872).

Check out http://www.hwysafety.org and see how the Chevy Venture http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/vans/trans_sport.htm
compares to the Chevy Impala http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/large_family/impala.htm
in offset crash tests...the choice will be obvious.....

Holy crap, did you see the pictures on that Transport crash test! Yikes, wouldn't want to be in there!

Ok, after seeing a few red boxes, and a few pictures of wrecked cars at the above links and at this one http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/vans/crashvan.htm I guess the impala is the better choice for now. Unless i get s super deal for the van.

After moving forward into the airbag, the dummy's head and neck were snapped rearward as the steering column intruded. ..... . The seat continued moving forward and pushed down on top of the dummy's head, bending its neck back even farther.
Man, then this:
Massive occupant compartment deformation contributed to dummy measures indicating the likelihood of significant injury to the neck and both legs in the frontal offset crash test.

I have a minivan and I love it. Of course I also have 4 kids and it is totally NASTY inside cause of that. But I would never want another car after having the van. Why are you stuck on that brand of van?
Also.. have you looked at the VW Jettas? Those are nice and from what heard they got excellent safety ratings. (Husband just bought a new one.)

Well, i guess if i was paying msrp i wouldnt be, i'd prolly get a windstar, or oddessy but my uncle could get the van for about 16.5 thou. Thats about 5 thou under msrp. Then add to that ( or should i say take away), up to 3 thou (gm card savings) and a few other rebates here and there, and it looks like a pretty good deal. Unfortunately a good, even great super duper deal isnt worth looking like that crash dummy after a crash, so many red P's(p = poor). And that crash is only at 40 MPH. I go that fast, sometimes a little faster on local streets. If that car was for me, i'd prolly get it anyway, i think i'm a pretty good driver. but my dad's gonna be driving it, dad and mom. Both of them have their own problems. Dad thinks he's AJ Foyt ( pick some famous race car driver's name) and drives really close to the car in front of him, about half of the time he doesnt signal, and likes quick stops, not that there's anything wrong with quick stops, but when you're about 4 ft away from the car in front of you, after you've come to a stop, eh, its just a matter of time till trouble comes. Now to my mom, she doesnt drive very often but when she does and is paying full attention, shes a pretty good driver, slow driver but safe. Usually she's not paying full attention though, so she's passed a few stop signs and stop lights. Yea, i'm starting to think its a chinese thing, not asain, only chinese, i have a friend that failed his road test 4 times, no names but we know who he is. :-). And Clueless' roommate isnt exactly the best, he almost crashed on his way to school, yup, i was in the car(scary!!!). There's a long list. I'll leave it as that.

Hey Grizzy How about a Chrysler PT Crusier, nice cheap, it can be a large sedan or a small mini van. Fully loaded for around 16G.

Haha, Sure mad, another car with little utility, sure it looks kinda funny which i like but i'll hold off on it till i start making my own money. Oh here's another reason, pt cruiser is made by chrysler, and i got a chrysler car thats falling apart. Personally i'd get a windstar but i dont get the 3000 gm discount off ford vehicles.
