Can someone tell me why, when I am using Nero to burn a cd...the "used read buffer" keeps going up and down from 100% to 0% while in the process of burning a cd, the "recorder buffer level" does the same thing and it just started doing this today?

Just to add to it...
I was currently burning at 12x, I dropped it down to 10x and all worked well, so I changed it back to 12x and same thing. About 1 or 2 ago, I was having a different problem, and someone recommended a firmware upgrade, which needless to say fixed that problem, so what could this problem be?

Probably has something to do with the "Smart-Burn" technology. Are you successfully burning or are you making coasters?

What burner are you using and what version of Nero? The latest version of Nero is 5.5.9.9.
Also have you tried different media?

Yes, the burns are successful, its just taking longer than usual since the buffer is constantly fluncuating(sp?).
The burner is a Teac 12x, the type of media is Fuji, which I have been using since about day 1 with no problem, and yes I am using the latest version of Nero.

I used the 12X Lite-on before with Nero and I never had problems with the buffer (never dropped below 95%). Now I'm using a 32X Lite-on, the buffer does change a lot since sometimes the drives do not access the data fast enough for 32X burning.

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
Through the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Anyway... tell me something, are you copying CD to CD on the fly, or are you burning something from HD to CD? If you're going from HD to CD it will help immensely if you put the 2 drives on two different IDE channels. Don't forget to enable DMA on the CD-burner and see if that helps. Things such as your hard drive speeds could also contribute to this problem, got 5400 rpm?

I am copying from HD to CD, how can I find out if DMA is enabled. Oh, the rpm is 7200.

so your burner was doing fin all along, and then bam, now it wont burn above 10x without slowing way down?
i'll bet you have a ton of spyware using up processor cycles and memory.
go to download.com and get "ad aware" and install it and run it and deleet all your add and spyware.

I already have it installed, I just havent used it lately, will run it now to check and see whats on my computer. I did a system restore to the previous day which didnt seem to help. Now I am considering whether or not I should defragment.

Ok, I ran the defragmenter, but same thing, I also cleared up as much space as I possibly could, with no luck.
Any other suggestions

Using CDRWIN, if there are unsuccessful burns, the images are left on the hard drive. The next time that you try to burn, the program gets confused and really messes things up. In order to prevent this, I delete all of my .BIN files. I don't know what format that NERO uses, but it may be worth a check to see if there are unburned files left on your HD.

The burns went through, it was just taking longer than usual since the buffers were messing up.
