Got this in a forward, probably a repost:

THREE LITTLE WORDS.. I suppose some degree of commerce would grind to a halt if telephone solicitors weren't able to call people at home during dinner hour. But that doesn't make it any more pleasant.

Now Steve Rubenstein, a writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, has proposed "Three Little Words" based on his brief experience in a telemarketing operation that would stop the nuisance for all time. The three little words are "Hold On, Please."

Saying this while putting down your phone and walking off instead of hanging up immediately would make each telemarketing call so time-consuming that boiler rooms would grind to a halt. When you eventually hear the phone company's beep-beep-beep tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task. This might be one of those articles you'll want to e-mail to your friends. Three little words that eliminate telephone soliciting.

GOOD IDEAS:
When you get ads in your phone or utility bill, include them with the payment - let the companies throw them away.

When you get those pre approved letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and junk like that, most of them come with postage paid return envelopes, right? Well, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little envelopes!

Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send the pizza coupon to Citibank.

If you didn't get anything else that day then just send them their application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can send it back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing!

Eventually, the banks and credit card companies will begin getting their junk back in the mail. Let's let them know what it's like to get junk mail, and the best of it is that they're paying for it! Twice!

Let's help keep our postal service busy since they say e-mail is cutting into their business, and that's why they need to increase postage again!

:D

actually, when you do that, you're screwing people out of jobs. Dont.

be nice, realize that telemarketers, no matter how rude they are, are working a job. They will actually get fired for NOT being rude.

just ask tehm kindly to REMOVE YOU FROM THEIR CALLING LIST.

at that point they can immetiately end teh call, and, as a benifit, you wont be called again.

doh, what a novel idea.

hmm...that's true...

I guess telemarketers and spam emailers are different. It's the spam emailers who should be dragged out of the street and shot. Or worse, be forced to READ all of their spam those bastards send.

Why contribute to the waste? Why not recycle that junk mail instead and make the world a better place for all? Everyone doing their part can make a difference.

Isn't it $0.10 to send but free to receive?

but if EVERYONE asked to be removed from the list, there would be no one to call and they'll be out of the job too.

though i don't think i'll ever bring myself to do the "hold on please" thing, i think i shall try the "send junk mail to the junk mailers" idea.

Now here's a thought. If we all send back the spam in those postage paid envelops and say hold on for a sec perhaps the companies will stop waisting money trying to solicit us. And just maybe.... that money will be put to something good like raises for the working class laborer, or maybe dividends for the stock holders.
Just a lil something to think about

doh, what a novel idea. NO! i don't care... i don't believe telemarketing should exist, period, so i don't care either way if i'm putting someone out of a job. it's a job i find to be particularly without purpose, so i'd rather contribute to its nonexistence. yall can call me insensitive if you want. i admit, i am...

The faster that industry can be shut down the faster those resources (people) can be shifted into more worthy pursuits. Markets are efficient and resources are scarce. Just show them they would be better off elsewhere by making what they are doing not unprofitable.

ive done that many times and have only once gotten an "Sure, no problem". usually they hangup on me or say "ummm, i cant do that, i have to ask my manager". i like the hold idea, even better, i have one of those music on hold boxes where you can put a cd in and let it loop over and over. some of those companies phone system dont even let thier employees hang up, they must wait until you hang up or get a manager to hang up

If you ask to be removed from their list, they have to do it. What you want to do is get the persons name and the time/date you asked to be removed. If they call again, you can sue them and I believe there is a statutorily mandated amount that you will receive. I never went so far as to go for the money, but I have only had one company make the mistake of calling me again.

As for junk mail well for right now we are SOL.

Here's how to sue telemarketers: Linky (http://www.fighttelemarketing.com)
The guy got some money, but it hardly seems worth the effort.

As for junk mail well for right now we are SOL. it doesnt help much if they lie or if just hang up on you. there was one guy who it sounded like he was lying about his name and company and a few who have just hung up. some put me on hold for minutes to get a manager to remove me from the list. so now i dont even bother, i try to be nice and tell them im not interested, but if they dont stop i hang up. i know if i were in that job, i wouldnt want people hanging up on me all the time so i try to be considerate to them.

That's Shirley Manson from the group "Garbage". Remember? She's the chick I was telling you about that was masturbating with her microphone at one of the KROQ Acoustic Christmas concerts Julia and I were at several years ago. :hihi:

Ahhh... fond memories :naughty: :D
