About a week ago a bunch of guys in my fraternity were sitting around talkig about the computer games we grew up with, and realized that almost all of us had played those old icon/turn based D&D games that were based on the dragonlance world. Now i am sure I probably seem like a freak and you guys have no idea what I am talking about, but I am in desperate need of at least the names of those old games and also a place to purchase/download them. We are having this big computer game tournament and really want to include those games in the running (wonder how they would look projected on an 80-foot screen...)

P.S. I hope that somebody responds to this so I don't feel like a freak...

Try searching for "abandonware" on the net. It should give you sites for old old games that publishers don't care about (hence the name abandonware). You should be able to find some old RPGs a la D&D.
If you want some new D&D games, I suggest you try Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate, though they use AD&D rules.
Try going to MSBCD.com. They have cheap prices. Also try ebay...you never know!

Cool, I'm going to check it out...I feel like a stereotypical role-playing game geek, but hey, I can't hide from my past http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

I'm not quite sure, but you might be talking about the old "gold box" D&D games.
The two I remember are
Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds.
Wait, those might not be the Dragonlance...regardless, they are classics and can be had for cheap.
As for using them in a tournament, I'm not quite sure how exciting that would be...but hey, different strokes for different folks.
good luck!

I think these older D&D games recently were bundled into a boxed set at a really cheap price ($20 or so).

You can order the Forgotten Realms Silver Collection for $17.53 directly from <A HREF="http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?SP=10023&PN=1&V1=167545&xid=9564">Interplay.</A> This includes 13 full games and the Baldur's Gate demo.
BTW, there's a <A HREF="http://www.ebworld.com/ebx/categories/products/product.asp?pf_id=182289">Pool of Radiance remake</A> due out this fall.

again...if the game is like 5-6 years old, you may be able to find it as abandonware. Think of it as warez of old games. I would help you look, but I'm on a freaking 33.6 connection =(

No, you're not the only freak. I used to love playing Pool of Radiance!
Ummm, what fraternity may I ask?
And yeah, do some searches on ask.com, etc. You'll likely find at least one.
Could also try discontinued software stores (though I bet most are out of business by now).
Otherwise, do the compilation deal, probably available at EB, SOftware ETc., MicroCenter - any store that doesn't change inventory quickly (ie any store with poor management).
