First time i played UT... Is it supposed to be that fast?? I miss Q3

No. The original UT was pretty slow in terms of movement. They seemed to have pumped up the speed on this one.

bahhh, its way to fast to be playable. Only decent weapons would be the ones that have a large radius of effect. The (UT version) of rail is useless at that speed.

Ahh... okay, I got that covered... But what was that crap I was reading about only the NEWEST videocards would be capable of performing with UT2003 and the whole cadre of new games coming out? Oh, wait... it was probably crap. :dodgy:
A lot of people are relieved now that their current rigs are able to run this game well and they don't have to upgrade. :heh:

Not another rocket arena?!?
I hope the release has the game toned done a bit. I don't play Quake 3 because when I did, it seemed there were only three weapons:
The "just shoot nearby" rocket launcher
The "camp at the hallway" rail gun
and the "spray the whole room for some easy frags" plasma rifle

Yeah... this is great news. I mean, I think there might be a few games that I want to run in the near future that require an upgrade, but atleast now I know that I can wait. :D

Not sure if they're still offering this, but if you pre-order UT2003 from EB for $40 you'll get a $10 gift card.
I'm happy to see that WC III didn't start a trend with the $60 price tag. Heck, I make games for a living and I STILL think that's too high!

I was looking somewhere in one place or another and I saw game speed. It was set at 100 by default, could probly put it on 1 and play at counter strike speed? Who knows, I'm goin back to wc and mmorpgs...

I toyed with the instant action for ten minutes (before church) ... and these are my thoughts:
The game *environment* looks really good - I get this "Preditor" feel in the jungle map, but I have a caveat:
One of the neat things about UT is how *real* the weapons seemed. Also, few of the weapons filled your screen with flashes of color when you fired them. The sniper rifle and the flak rifle are good examples of how weapons SHOULD be.
UT2003 has gone the way of Quake3-cartoony. The weapons take up far too much of the screen and when you fire them - you often lose track of distant targets because your screen is filled with a flash of color. (Did you hit em? You can't see any recourse or blood or anything...who knows?)
I hope ppl don't play UT2003 if it isn't as fun as UT. Tribes2 killed Tribes for me, my favorite FPS (squad combat) until its stupid sequel came out.

I like it so far... it does have a more 'cartooney' feel like Q3, but it's growing on me. I'm very interested in how the weapons will play out - anyone have a close look at the 'link gun'? Supposedly you can get several people together & combine the power of the gun (i.e., you can 'link' your guns together) to create one hell of a cannon for one guy.
Also, anyone know how to launch the teleporter like you used to be able to do with the air cannon? You can supposedly do it with the sheild gun, but I just keep killing myself, dang it.

im running this on my comp, a p4 1.6, 512mb pc2100 ddr, and a tnt2 m64 and its hella laggy and the graphics arent great. is it my vid card or the system itself? my bro has a p4 1.8 with 640ddr, but a geforce2 and his runs fine. any ideas?

Yeah, it's the video card. Unreal uses the GPU rather more than the CPU - which is why guys with 600mhz systems still do fine because they have GeForce 3's. That TNT is very, very, very, very old tech.
Now, I'm trying to get a server up, but...well, the server works, but it isn't broadcasting. I have a Cisco 675 router and the linksys firewall, and I'm fairly sure there is some port I need to open or something, but I'm not getting it.

I was pretty worried when I saw the min specs. I have a Duron 749, 256 SDRAM, and a GF2MX. But it runs fine at 800x600. Good thing, cause I won't be upgrading for a while. Anyone know how to run a benchmark with this?
There's a utility in the system folder.

Yeah, I feel you there. My system is very, very close to yours, and I'm feeling no slow downs. When it does get laggy, it is mainly because of the connection.
Haha, I might benchmark mine just to see what it does too.
I ran a couple of the benchmarks.

No, I know...
but mine came up with over 2,000 lines of data, but no results as far as overall framerates or score.
It did give a profile of my system, but it also listed my card as a Radeon 7200. :dodgy:
<edit> Oh, and the results I got were in the CSV's folder. The only things in the results folder were logs that I can't open.
Why couldn't you open the logs in the results folder? I also looked in that other folder, and saw the 2000 lines. (It opened in Excel?) I remeber the my results folder had a file in it called "do not delete.me".

Okay, so I just set the log files to open as notepad.
Anyway, I'm surpised that my results are so much lower than yours. I'm also surprised that the benchmarks don't reflect actual gameplay. :hmm:

Haha, funny, funny...
The thing is, I have the 64 meg DDR Radeon, and I am NOT using Win98.
Seriously, though, just from how little the screen is jumping when I'm actually playing, I'm not getting less than 40-50 fps.
To show fps within the game hit Tab and type stat fps
This will display max and average FPS
Also go in to the console and type preferences and you can see how high the texture res will go in the full game.

Okay, well, I did checked the fps from within the game, and it was higher than the demo, anyway. Depending on the map and the number of players, I'm getting around 35 +/- about 10. Still playable most of the time.
But I still have a lot of tweaking to do.

Ahem. Not to encourage you, but the 3rd CD is all Maya3d and all the unreal editing tools, I believe.
Besides, if it helps, it's price point will be 39.99.

Good, 39.99$ is a reasonable price to pay for a game. Its hard to justify the $59 they ask for warcraft3 and neverwinter nights when a game like UT2003 has as much replay value as them.

Even though I haven't played it much and it's not installed on my computer right now, I played the demo and it worked great.. Excellet graphics qualities, nice FPS, etc.. but the retail version doesn't work worth squat.. all crappy and jumpy..
hmm.. maybe I should go buy it instead of D/L it so I can get tech support.. heh.
