Does anybody remember these? I thought they were the best. I liked chipping away at that thin layer of ice that every pop had. I hope I'm not alone.

I had one..ONCE..it was when I was 28 years old and having my tonsils out. The doctor told me that once it was over I could eat pretty much anything soft that I wanted..They also put me on the Pediatric floor-
The only thing the nurses could scrounge up by the time I was "really awake" that night were pudding pops, Pedialyte Freeze pops, Green Jello, and a tub of rice pudding that someone had inadvertantly stuck in the freezer and various cans of juice..I choose the pudding pop thinking that since I've always heard that icecream was good for your throat after tonsilectomy's that it might taste nice.
No one warned me how bad it was going to hurt trying to swallow that thing..I cried. It felt like someone was running red hot daggers through the inside of my throat. Then I threw up and popped a suture-that to this day has neither disintegrated (like it was supposed to do)or been removed..Sometimes that suture turns the wrong way and it sends me into choking fits..I hate jello pops.

We were so poor we had to have homemade pudding pops.

Those were the best, though, Kim! My mom would do a different flavor each time we ran out. Butterscotch, chocolate, vanilla, etc. Yummy. :)

Yeah... they were awesome. I used the same technique. I would be a regular customer if they still made them.

You sparked my interest. A quick Google search uncovered the following...

"...or Jello Pudding Pops. Now I don't know many people who didn't love Jello Pudding Pops. But they disappeared from the market one day, and I haven't seen them since.

But, just as I was sure that my life was to be forever void of vanilla-chocolate-swirled goodness, I discovered something in the ice cream aisle of Ralph's:

The Fudgesicle Zone!

Almost the same as those beloved Pudding Pops of my youth...the Fudgesicle Zone has that delicious variety of vanilla-fudge-and swirled goodness that I remember.

Except they are lacking one important thing. I always remember that Jello Pudding Pops had this weird icy-hard outer layer that I loved. These don't have that. But they're still damn good."

How do you make homemade pudding pops? You just don't slop pudding into a popsicle tray do you?

Yep, that's what we did...

Or for a cool kid's snack idea, put some pudding into ice cube trays. Freeze them. In their lunch box, put a couple of cubes into a baggie. By the time lunch roles around, the pudding would have become unfrozen and the kid can use a spoon to eat it out of the bag. :D Cheaper than the pudding cups.

Hmm... perhaps I will try that. But the pudding seems a bit thick... I think thinning it out will be necessary.

Why? It can be thick... It will still freeze...

Yeah, but I don't think that will give me the same consistency as the original Jell-O pops.

Honestly, I was so young I don't remember if mom thinned out the pudding before she froze it.

just put it in the freezer in little paper cups with a plastic spoon sticking out. nothing special done to it. it comes out fine.

Guess what? They're BACK! I just bought a box of them. They're in a different shape now and don't taste like I remember them. Granted, I've only eaten 1 so far. I'll go back to the freezer and get a swirled one now.

Never had these pudding pops you speak of. We only did "regular" (fruit juice or fake fruit juice or soda) popsicles. Come to think of it, we didn't have pudding very often. Didn't seem to miss it.

I too practiced the chipping thin ice technique. Brings back good memories of summer time. I remember eating jalapeno Krunchers chips (do they still make those?) on 90° summer days, then cooling off my tongue with a Jello pudding pop.

Honestly, I probably still hate these... didn't like 'em as a kid, probably won't as an adult. :puke:

Well, I was out on a late night snack binge and saw these in the freezer case so I HAD to go digging. :D

mmm.....I remember those too! I liked the ones that were just like frozen jello....not pudding too.

I actually just made some by accident the other day. I had made some jell-o shots and put a couple in the freezer to quickin the curing process.....and when it came out it was like a jello pop.

To make them forreal just make the jello and then add an extra cup of sugar to the mix. Then freeze.......mmmmmmmmm
