Due to the problems I was having with my other burner, I bought me another one (Digital Research 32x10x40). The problem now is when I burn a cd it only gives me the option to burn up to 16x, can someone tell me what the big idea is?

it might be the media you are using...they are really picky sometimes...you could also turn off smart burn so u dont have to go buy new cds...thats what i did to burn at 48x

I am using Fuji cd's which are rated up to 48x. In Nero I checked all the options and I didnt see anything about smart burn.

Oh, under the "Recorder" tab in Nero there is an option for "choose recorder", when I clicked on it, it shows my burner and for the maximum speed it shows 32x, its just not allowing me to utilize that choose.

ok under choose recorder in nero highlight your burner and click on options see if SMART-BURN is checked...also the burner might be set on pio mode instead of dma. go to your device manager and under the ide channals make sure that they are all set to "Dma if Available"

Wait... isn't this the burner that only allows you to burn at certain speeds depending on your processor speed? What is your system?

I checked under "choose recorder" and there is an option for "Super Link", which was checked...I unchecked it and it didnt make a difference. I also checked the DMA's under the device manager, the primary was set properly, the secondary I had to switch to DMA...I restarted and still the same thing.

:hmm: I wouldn't even know where to start for a search on this, but I remember a thread a while ago where someone couldn't get their burner to burn at faster than a certain rate because their processor was too slow. Like the burner had some built in governor or something. And I think it is the same burner that you have: Digital Research.
