Well after building a few computers for friends, the requests are growing quite abit lately. I was wondering how I can obtain OEM licenses of windows and office programs so I don't have to pay as much. I notice on ms's site there's an OEM builder program or something but I got too lazy to read it all and couldn't find a way to see costs of it. Basically if I can't get legit copies of xp, office etc. for dirt cheap. . . these people wanting me to build them comps will be getting a dell, heheh.

get someone that goes to a university to get 'em for you. WinXP is $25, Office is about the same.. at least at my univ it is  as for OEM licenses, haven't a clue..

it IS $25, not $125. Its supposed to be for students only. All you get is the CD. Must present student ID to purchase. And I'm not sure if there is a limit per student. Not retail boxed version. I go to San Jose State University.

my cousin went to school in seattle and she got any microsoft software for free, excluding games. :bawl: I wish my school was like that.

that is to use your schools site leiscense. you give up that agreement when you leave the school. It is illegal to resell that liscense afterwards.

If you buy an acedemic version (available at some bestbuys now), its around 150 for office and i believe WinXP is still retail price.

I just bought Office XP, XP Pro, and Office X for 50 bucks. The copies are being used by my office so i didnt have to pay for it, but they are all covered by my schools M$ agreement.

Our school doesnt let us do that. In fact, our on campus computer store is so over priced its a sad, sad joke.
I think they get around having to offer the academic software because at our school computers are a "requirement." You are "encouraged" to have one but its not mandatory. We have 24 hour pc and mac labs so you dont technically need your own, but Ive never heard of someone who doesnt have one.

at my school, university of illinois, they push MS software on us so hard, they have promo events where they raffle X-boxes and games, and give free microsoft everything. i am trying to get visual source safe right now, already got the visual studio .net today
