Today, ShortStack and I found "our" song...and I was curious what other couples out there choose as "your" song. A song that will always remind you of that person.

Music is something I like because it says things so well sometimes that you can not just express yourself.

Ours is done by Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles.

Great song...I especially love how well she does on piano.

No one here will probably know this song OR the artist, but it's "Too Much Into Nothing" by John Wesley Harding.

we have several that have a special meaning to our relationship in one way or another.

but i think the one that both of us would identify most clearly as "our" song is "Black" by Pearl Jam.

bonus trivia (the story behind why it's "our" song): both of us are huge PJ fans, although that has little to do with why it's "our" song. when she graduated from high school, i included lines from the bridge of the song in her graduation card -- "i know some day you'll have a beautiful life/ i know you'll be a star".

i didn't finish the quote (the song goes on to say "...you'll be a star/ in somebody else's sky/ why? why? why, can't it be mine?" when i wrote the card, i was thinking that exact thought -- we were going separate ways so i had kept myself somewhat distant from her emotionally, because i didn't think there was even a chance of a relationship for us, although i must admit that i was rather fond of her at that point. but including those lyrics would have been whiney and would have made our relationship sound like it was at a point neither of us wanted to acknowledge then.

so when she received the card, she thought the same thing....why couldn't she be a star in my sky?

long story short, we were dating in under four months, and the rest, as they say, is history

we never had a song. if we had to have one, it would be nothing else matters because i sung it to her at themetallica new years eve concert for 1999-2000.

I don't think Chick and I have a particular song, although I may be wrong. Some decisions are made for both of us by the other w/o consultation.

Navin Why are you crying and why are you wearing that old dress?
Marie Because I just heard a song on the radio that reminded me of the way we were.
Navin What was it?
Marie "The Way We Were".

We really don't have a "song". I do remember requesting that our wedding dance band play one special song: "Wild Thing" by the Troggs.

I actually have a breakup song. "Wildest dreams". 'When the music plays', I think of him. He wrote some of the lyrics on the back of one of our pictures... :sigh: :bawl: Gawd, to be 19 again... wow, I am old.

We don't really have a song, per se, but there is one that always reminds me of Scott and makes me look back on a fond memory.

Surprise, it's a country song. ;)

Lonestar's "Tell Her" because we were travelling to Oklahoma to visit my family (before Josh was born, I think) and it came on the radio. I had been feeling pretty unhappy and Scott had been in a bad mood. He had heard that song before and so he pulled over and in his horrible singing voice, started singing along with it while reaching for me and hugging me. I cried and have never forgotten that.

"So you say your love's about to end
You say you can't take no more
She's out the door
And your looking for a friend

Who am I to tell you why
But I'm just curious, were you furious
Or did you swallow your pride
And look her in the eye and

Tell her that you love her
Tell her that you need her
Tell her that you want her to stay
Reassure her with a kiss
She may never know unless you
Show her what your feeling
Tell her you're believing
Even though it's hard to say
'Cause she needs to know you're thinking of her
So open up and tell her that you love her

Brother I've been right where you are now
And my heart was broke
'Cause I never spoke
Those healing words out loud

But I've learned my lesson well
And now every night
Before I close my eyes
I look at my woman and
I ask myself did you

Tell her that you love her
Tell her that you need her
Tell her that you want her to stay
Reassure her with a kiss
She may never know unless you
Show her what your feeling
Tell her you're believing
Even though it's hard to say
'Cause she needs to know you're thinking of her
So open up and tell her that you love her

Tell her that you love her

Tell her that you love her
Tell her that you need her
Tell her that you want her to stay
Reassure her with a kiss
She may never know unless you
Show her what your feeling
Tell her you're believing
Even though it's hard to say
'Cause she needs to know you're thinking of her
So open up and tell her that you love her
Tell her that you love her"

Our wedding song was "True Love Ways" by Buddy Holly. Simple, but we love it. :)

Just you know why
why you and I
will by and by
know true love ways

Sometimes we'll sigh
sometimes we'll cry
but you'll know why
just you and I
know true love ways

Throughout the days
those true love ways
will bring us joys to share
with those who really care

Sometimes we'll sigh
sometimes we'll cry
but you'll know why
just you and I
know true love ways

Throughout the days
those true love ways
will bring us joys to share
with those who really care

Sometimes we'll sigh
sometimes we'll cry
but you'll know why
just you and I
know true love ways

Ak,
that song "Black" reminds me of past relationships. I thought the song is more about not being able to be with her, so she'll be the star in someone else sky. Or I'm totally wrong again.

-jel:halo:
BTW: I like the song "Can you stand the rain" by N.E. I played it during some past relationships and I guess they couldn't..... or maybe they just couldnt stand me.

no, you're right. the song is about a relationship that ended and the sadness that results from it: "all the love gone bad/ turned my world to black/ tattoed all i see/ all that i am/ all i'll be..."

but it's special for me an my GF in two ways
1.) because it's ironic that a song that is about separation ended up making us both think about how we wanted to be together

2.) because it is a beautiful song about how much one person can love another

I have a break up song too! Bad Day by Fuel, or that last song on the new Reel Big Fish album. Geez, I forgot the name and the CD is in my car! It's really good though.

Should I mention that was an old song from one of my ex's? I love that song and still think of him everytime it's played. Actually, I danced with him after we had broken up to that song at junior prom. It was great, and I think one of the most true songs I had a with a guy in the past.

Other songs...Coldplay's "Yellow", "Unchained Melody", "Porcelina" by the Smashing Pumpkins...so many...too many
