Theyve been saying cd-r prices are going to rise for the past year and a half and it hasnt happened yet. Far too many companies are competing for the cd-r buying dollar.

I believe that they really did rise, but there are so many rebate offers out there that many of the prices have stabilized or even dropped.

Well, not only that, but production of CD-Rs has so outpaced demand that 2 or 3 factories could burn and it wouldn't affect the price that much.

I still have more than 100 of them from the last "free after rebate" offer, so I'm not going to worry...
In 1990 CDRs were more than $60 EACH. As recently as 1998 my employer kept them locked in a storage room. You had to ask the office manager for one, who would need to know for what purpose you wanted one. Now they're sitting on the supply shelf by the pencils and paper clips.

$60 EACH for CD-Rs? i mean, it doesn't surprise me, but that is still majorly expensive. of course, when you consider that 1.44mb floppies cost around $1/each in the store, and a 650mb cd-r has the capacity of 451 floppies, and ALL ON ONE DISK, you can see that the CD-R was still a good investment.
i remember when i was in ninth grade (1994 or so), i found these 10-pack 1.44mb floppies for $9.50/box with a $5 rebate at wal-mart. $4.50 for 10 floppies! what a deal. i was so psyched, because often people i knew were paying ~$12-15/box.
now, if i can't find a spindle of 50 CD-Rs for under $5 (or better yet, free), then i'm not interested :heh:
