I bought a 36” RCA Tube type tv about 5 years ago and not it is on the fritz. It turns it’s self off and sometimes it will not turn on sometimes. I was happy with this tv before it started having issues. It has line inputs and 2 video inputs (those are a MUST for me)

I have digital cable and S-VHS VCR and a DVD player

Is it worth having it repaired or should I look for a new TV.

If your suggestion is to but a new TV I want to spend less than 1K and what kind should I look for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It would probably be cheaper to buy a new television set. i would recommend Mitsubishi. I have always had good luck with their hardware.

You also might want to get an estimate on the TV. However, that could cost you a lot just for them to look at it.

Ok... just in case you didn't think of this, did you check the batteries in your remote? When was the last time you put fresh batteries in it?

I've seen something like this before and all it turned out to be were weak batteries causing the remote control to do weird stuff to the TV.

Or were you using the main switch on the TV itself when this stuff started happening?

I was using the main switch on the TV itself when this stuff started happening? and i thought maybe the button was worne out so i used the remot and i tried fresh batteries. still teh same thing .. :(

Fixing it might be expensive. You could always call them and get an estimate though.

What's your budget for a new TV?

Usually, cheaper flat screen (not flat panel) TV's have poor corner convergence compared with the normal curved ones. It's only when you get to the more expensive ones that they improve this.

My budget is about $1000

i would like to have a 36" or larger TV. if you have any suggestions for one to get they would be welcomed.
have the projections TV's improved any. use to if you where not sitting 10' away and directly in front of the TV teh pix was poor.

so would $1000 be a cheaper flat screen (36")?

any paticular brand model better.. or is a Sanyo from walmart just as good as a Sony or RCA from best buy?

Actualy I was looking at consumer reports (a month or so ago) and Sanyo was #1. This might just be reliablity though. I recently bought a $200 TV 27" from walmart and I love it. It has a very sharp, bright picture, and some other small frills.

About $1000 would be one of the cheaper flat screens. Let us know how much the repair is and if you decided to fix it.
