Whats a good software program that will take an image of your hard disk (or partition) for backup purposes? It'd be nice to have when you're cleaning house instead of the ol' reformat.

Though i've never done it, Norton Ghost is the one that I hear everyone using.

At the new place that I work (I am the technician there) I have used this little program five times in the last 3 days. :P It's a wonderful program.

Plus, most of the work has been failing hard drives or someone expanding to a larger one. :P

I have been using PowerQuest Drive Image for over 2yrs and has reduced my install/setup times by 75%. I have tried Ghost which does seem a little faster but I just like Drive Image better.

I have used Norton Ghost many times, it works great. I have heard the newest version even works across networks but I am not entirly sure.

I have heard people have had luck with DriveImage though I have never used it.

i kinda glanced through some of the user docs online. Does it compress the image for you and you can archive it on another drive? Does it require a petition all of its own? Looks kinda complicated to use.

you wont need a partition if you aready have another drive to save the image to.

plus he doesnt need a partition also if he wants to burn an image of the drive onto a CDR as an alternative.

i was just wondering if the image was required to sit on its own partition (not petition, heh). I have only one hd, but 3 partitions set up (one ntfs, 2 fat32). It would seem as if it is possible to make an image file of the current booting drive and put it in the other partition along with all my other data (according to Chosen). Is that right?
