locking xp

how do you lock xp so that you can only get in with a password? my friend can do it by pressing ctrl+alt+delete, but when i do it task manager comes up. i have xp home edition

Disable the new user interface.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change The Way Users Log On Or Off -> UNCHECK Both options.

Also if you want to leave your computer for a few minutes just press WinKey+L and it will bring up the login screen.
