(Okay, I was going to email ribitch directly, but I figured I would throw this open to everyone. ;))

I was talking to a buddy recently about the games that we used to run on our Macs in the old days, and I was wondering if anyone ever ported Talking Moose or Solarian II to Windows or Linux. Or Shufflepuck for that matter.

Jus' wonderin'.

Solarian II was a very cool "Space Invaders" kinda game. The graphics and audio were 'way ahead of its time, which was about 1990. We used to play this on our Mac IIcx machines, when we had both *NIX and Macs in the office.

Shufflepuck was a simple but addictive air hockey simulator.

The Talking Moose is legendary among the old Mac users; it's a voice simulation program that has a moose (not unlike Bullwinkle) as its icon. Run the program and the moose pops up at random saying one or two words. Sounds annoying, I know, but it's actually quite charming.

there have been attempts to recreate the moose, but none of them are the same. The original programer gave permission though to update for OS X, so there is hope that someday, the moose will be back. I still have a functional mac classic, and I'll fire it up now and then to get the moose going. God that program rocked.

Ooops, I misremembered. The original programmer is doing cancer research in Canada, he isn't a vet.

here is a link to the current, mac only version: http://www.zathras.de/moose/ (Talking Moose)

For what it's worth, I did a search on Solarian II and it's all over the place for downloading. The ZDNet sites have it, among others.

I also discovered it was released in 1991, so I was only off by a year. :D
