I don't know why...

I guess cause I was MAJORLY  with the whole Spike thing. *sigh* It was a little hard for me to hear (way I recorded it), so that may have been part of it.

Dunno. Didn't quite get the end part with all the morphing going on.

[spoilers if you didn't see the season opener yet... you have been warned!]

Last chance!

It is the Whedon Way... we are not meant to understand what's going on there yet. I knew that Adam Busch (warren), Clare Kramer (glory), and George Hertzberg (Adam) were signed for some episodes this season, but I did not know about Harry Groener (my favorite Buffy villain EVER - the mayor), Juliet Landau (i know they've had trouble getting Drusilla in the past because of her schedule), or Mark Metcalf (the master).

We know that something big is coming from Willow and Halfrek and probably from whatever it was that was going on at the beginning of the episode that was left unexplained. We also know that Spike just had some major hoodoo worked on him and is unstable and possibly a wee bit insane from his new soul (remember what it did to Angel?) and we've seen in the Buffy universe that disturbed individuals often have a connection with powers and evils that others cannot see. So there's some connection there.

Now the morphing whatever at the end of show was talking about bringing to back to the beginning. To represent that, the character morphed backwards starting with Season 6 and Warren all the way to Season 1 with the Master and then finally to Buffy, which I'm sure holds some sort of symbolism that we'll find out more about later.

What *I* didn't like about the episode was that it seemed like a lot of it was cut for time. Everything seemed rushed, and sometimes after coming back from commercial break it seemed like it was right in the middle of some action as if part of the scene had been lost or the commercial ran over. But the version posted on Usenet was from a Canadian broadcast and was the same, so it was more likely edited. That was a little annoying.

On the other hand, I *did* like the general feel of the episode. It was much more like earlier episodes of Buffy, probably helped by the school being back. Dawn looks to be getting her own little gang which should be interesting as well. I'm anxious to see the reaction when people find out Spike has a soul and I'm also glad that they let Willow keep her magic by having the coven train her in the good use of magic, rather than just having stripped it away from her. That was handled well, I thought.

At any rate, IMO season openers for Buffy have been relatively weak compared the rest of the season (Season 2 excepted..) so I wouldn't give up hope just yet. :D

Ok, part of the reason I was clueless about that is that I have only watched 1 full season of Buffy. Then the VERY last part of the season before that, so...

Ok, first, who is Halfrek? lol And the same about Buffy goes toward Angel. I started watching them at the same time. :( I missed a ton. lol And yeah, I'm sure he is going a little crazy. (Spike, I mean.) I kind of dig the new 'do. Fits his new soul. lol But I hope he loses it. ;) (The 'do, not the soul. lol)

Yeah, that stuff I was lost about since I hadn't seen the whole series before. :)

I agree about it feeling rushed. I kind of felt like it was thrown together. It didn't flow quite as smoothly as I thought it should. Hopefully, like you said, it will get better.

Where was I last season?? I must have missed the whole school not being there thing! lol Where did they go to school at?? Or did something happen last season that I can't remember? LOL I'm so confused!

Ok, the Willow thing. I must have missed that part, too... What coven? Was it explained in the episode last night? lol

I'm glad you think it will get better. ;) I am anticipating that it will. :) I'm excited about Spike & his soul & the possibilities of that, Dawn & her new friends at the school, Buffy as a "counselor" and lots more.

Oh wow you DO need some background! I don't want to give too much away in case you are watching the old episodes on FX or on DVD. It's too bad you don't live in New England, my wife and I could invite you over for a marathon session with seasons 1-4 of the Buffy DVDs and seasons 1 & 2 of the Angel DVDs. :D

:heh:

I would LOVE that! Oh well! :( :)

Please, feel free to give me background info! I'm not watching em right now, although sometime, I may buy Buffy. But that won't be for awhile, so... :)

He shows Spike to pique our curosity but uses his insanity to show us "the bigger picture."

Don't worry -- it WILL get better. The season premieres are usually pretty weak when compared to the rest of the season. :)

I have to disagree. I really enjoyed it. I hate to admit watching Buffy, for several seasons. But it is my guilty pleasure. Anywho, bringing back the best villians of every season has really gotten my interest picqued. Last season was ssssssssoooooo depressing. It was time for a positive step forward. I was reading an article on E!where they polled viewers. The general consensus was that unless something positive happened, people were going to stop watching. Spike's choice not to just come out and say he didn't have a soul was a nice touch. It earned him brownie points. Vs: "hey I'm gong to be a direct replacement for Angel."
