are you on a cable modem?

If so, you just hook the cable line into the router, and run cat5 cable to the usb modem and then another cat 5 cable to the other computer that also has a nic card. :)

Another options is try get a USB to RJ45 connectors like the one found here http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/usb_ethernet_adapter.html

I have seen DSL modems that only have the RJ-11 (phoneline) and USB connectors for your PC where this type of connector will work well provided you get a gateway router or hub (if you ISP allows more than 1 PC)

Cheers,

its a dsl modem with only the phoneline and the usb jack. and i dont think that works.

Unfortunately USB to ethernet converters which will convert a USB DSL/Cable modems USB port to ethernet do not exist. The problem being basically that there is no way to load the necessary drivers onto a DSL/Cable modem to let it know how to talk to the converter.

so the only way is to exchange the modem to a cat5 cable one right?

If you're brave, you can just use your PC as a router...

Have the USB coming in carrying your network connection, then enable IP forwarding & turn on DHCP on your PC, send the connection out of your network card into a hub (or a 2nd PC if you only have 2).

It's much cheaper than getting a new modem, but setting up routing can be a little intimidating if you've never done it before.

Here are some good tips to get you started if you want to give it a try:

yeah, that's what I was thinking.
pretty easy with just one other computer (total 2 computers), using internet sharing that windows includes.

its my friends. i had the same problem b4 too xept i just took the easy way out and paid $25 for a modem upgrade with my company.

so that means u can use a computer as the central server to enable the connection to be split then. i didnt think that was possible. maybe i'll tell them to try that out b4 (if they do) upgrade.

thanks u guys!
