View Full Version : Decent DVD Player with SVCD/VCD Capability
Ok so I need a DVD player for my TV after my PS2 got stolen this summer and I finally have a little bit of money to go out and buy one. I was looking at the Apex DVD players but i've been reading reviews on them and they seem to break easily. I don't know whether I should risk my money on those. I dont have a nice TV or anything. It's just a 27" Toshiba that I Got for XMAS so I don't need anything incredibly bad ass (I don't even have S-Video). But I want something to play VCDs and SVCDs for ......homie movies . Any recommendations? If you guys say the Apex ones are great then maybe I'll go for it, but who knows.

i have an apex ad-1500 and i like it. it doesnt have the best build quality, not something youre gonna find in a $300 player, but for under $100 what can you really expect. the reason i bought this one was not for watching dvd's, but for having a player that could bypass macromedia protection. the controls arent the greatest, lots of small buttons and bad remote response. i often find myself pressing buttons over and over to do one thing. if you can only afford so much go for it, there is no reason to mess with finances over a dvd player, but if you can go for something a little better, unless you can use the macromedia override :hihi:

why do I have a bad feeling that most of the people who broke their Apex dvd players were trying to hack it?
:P
anyways, I have experience with Daewoo, Samsung, some no-name brand lasonic or something, and Toshiba.
If you're going to use RCA connection, you know what, it's not worth spending over 100 bucks on a dvd player. the Daewoo is nice enough (though I have problems with the subtitle). it plays all my dvd's well, without skipping. and people actually like the quality. - they ask me if I'm using a component video connection.

:Pmost of the macromedia and region free hack just requires you to put in cd with the hacked firmware on it. you dont have to open it or anything. just read up on it before you buy it because certain models arent hackable

Go to Costco and pick up a Toshiba dvd player. Good quality and cheap.
So I ended up buying this DVD Player:
Samsung DVDC621 5 Disc DVD Player
from Ubid.com for ~$80 shipped ($50 bid , $30 shipping:rolleyes:)
I guess it's still a pretty good deal for a 5 Disc DVD player that plays VCDs and SVCDs. Anyone have any experience with this product? I generally like Samsung products and this is a new item not refurbished. I hope it turns out great.
