I can connect to FTPs and go to websites, but for some reason I cant connect to IRC or AIM or Trillian, anyting like that. I'm connected on a LAN to the apartment complex T1, any idea what may be casuing this?

Could be the firewall is blocking the ports that those programs use.

My thoughts exactly on the port filtering. Try this, open up your AIM preferences, go to "Sign On/Off" and click "Connection" at the bottom. Then hit the auto configure button on the right and see if that helps AIM. It will usually be able to find an open port.

I thought that Trillian and IRC use a different port than AIM? Or could multiple ports be blocked?

No firewall. What was weird is they started dying at different times. I was on AIM and trillian and they signed off and couldnt get back on. I continued to chat on IRC for a few minutes before I got disconnected from that.
I called the network admin and he says he is "looking into it."

It definitely sounds like someone is messing with the router in your building.

More mysteriousness...
AIM now works, but IRC is still down. The plot thickens...
