I got a logitech optical with my new computer and every once in a while the cursor just goes crazy and slides to different corners of the screen. The mourse wouldn't work on my glass desk, so I place a thin mouse pad on the glass. Is this normal? should I get it replaced?

I find out that if your mouse pad has any red on it. It goes wild. it also does that sometimes on a white surface. optical on glass do not work at all.

Also...did you install the drivers for the mouse? That helps out a lot too.

And yeah...glass + optical mouse = don't work. :)

The drivers do add some nice features and address some problems but if you will be playing Half-Life/Counter-Strike (there are some other games too I think) then some of the buttons will not work. I have not tried any of the newer drivers so that problem maybe fixed. Just thought I would mention it.

this same thing happens to me, with my microsoft optical mouse. And it's on a "wooden" desk AND a mousepad, it does it with both... pisses me off...

i've noticed some tables with the wood laminate design would cause the mouse cursor to move in undesired directions. and low batteries would also cause that if you have a wireless mouse.

Man it's getting worse and worse!! The damn cursor just won't stay still.... I'm gonna try a new pad surface first.

Are you using a USB or PS/2 model? On my Microsoft optical Explorer mouse, it was all screwwy when I used it in the USB. It works without any problems now with the PS/2 adapter installed. Everything is fine even without any specific drivers installed.

hmmm. it's a PS/2 mouse... still experimenting with different mouse pads. If this freakin rodent doesn't get its act together soon, I'm gonna have to replace its a$$.
