hey i just got a DOA 512PC133 chip from buyaib. anyone had experience with them? i read chosenfool in another thread saying not to buy from them.
i'm kinda pissed, b/c the invoice didn't have a phone number. then i looked at their site and coulndn't find a number either.

we bought from them once, but luckily the item was on backorder, so i found some ratings:
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2870.html
and cancelled the order asap.
If i were you, i'd get my credit card company on this one. write them a letter , and when they dont respond, call up your credit card co. i hope you have citibank or Amex, they handle all my problems for me :)

This page (http://buyaib.com/info.html) seems to be their contact information.
Good luck, and in the future remember that resellerratings.com is your friend!
Geez can't much of a lower score can the turds? :2far:

I would assume you found them from pricewatch.com. Complain to pricewatch as well as they may stop listing them if they get enough complaints.

ok, i called them. according to them, all i have to do is mail it back and they will replace it. said it would take 7 days to process the paper work and then they would mail it back.
they said no charge for restocking, and that i could mail it back however i wanted. my delima is this: i could just stick it in a envelope with an $00.80 stamp and mail it. but now i'm scared they might try to say they never got it. but if i send it registered mail or UPS, and end up charging for the RMA, then i loose to much money.
ARRRRGGGGHHHH! this sucks. what really sucks is that although i've used the term 'I', this is really a friend who knows nothing about 'puters. i do all his stuff for him and i'm the one that told him to order from this place! now i feel like a jackass.:(

you really can't without a mobo and the works. Also don't take off that heatsink because some companies will void your warranty if you do.

I ordered a Samsung PC2700 512MB and outside theres only a sticker that says...."BUYAIB.COM PC2700 DDR 512MB 333MHZ"
so my guess at the moment before i finish putting together my new system...i am assuming the worst that i didnt get a Samsung and most likely its not even a PC2700 333MHZ.....damn it....what a freaking mess....

that's my plan if they don't do me right.

Try to run your system @ 133Mhz FSB but turn the "DDR:CPU Ratio" to 2.5x (2.5x 133Mhz = 333Mhz) to test your DDR. You might need to crank up the voltage of the DDR to handle higher speed. I don't think a locked CPU could handle 166Mhz FSB without voltage mod.

what does an overclocked memory means? is there any difference from regular ones? I just talked to one of the representants at aib and he mentioned something about it. but I am planning to go by their store one of these days to nag them to either refund the damn stick or give me the right one.
is there something i should look for if they are going to test the stick at their place?
damn...i am serious...i might go medieval on their punk asses.

i think the only thing we could legally do is to keep complaining to them and keep record of everything. and if they dont want to reimburse you for it then file it on a small claims court.
any other suggestion?
that's probably what I am planning to do if they refuse to give me what I ordered.

Overclocked memory means it's O/Cable @ higher speed but listed @ lower speed. For example, you get a stick of PC2700 but it's a stick of PC2100 and O/Cable to 333Mhz (PC2700).

You don't want a PC2700 O/Ced RAM since it's just PC2100. YOu want a real PC2700 or PC3200 since it's designed for that speed. :D

never buy unknown brands...call up first and ask for the memory part number then search for it. I'd stick to corsair and samsung stuff myself. I have samsung PC2700 and the chips don't have any heatspreader on them so you can go to samsung's website and look up the numbers and see what type of stick you got.

I think that's the ram I'm going to get when I build my next system. If I ABSOLUTELY need a heatspreader... I'll just try to find them later.

I really wouldn't buy from anyone other then newegg and googlegear. I have had way too many bad experiances with other online retailers.
I bought a 512 PC133 from BuyAIB and they sent me a 128 with a heat spreader, The head spreader said remove this and you void your warrenty. I took it off, and it said 128. I called complained and they hung up on me because I said I took the heat spreader off.
Besure to check http://www.resellerratings.com and read the reviews before ordering from somewhere.
Want to see something funny? http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1823.html . Damn the 6 month rating went up a little bit but the lifetime rating is 1.99. Make a guess at what bid retailer this is.

thanks for the replies.....
Can anyone tell by just the looking at the product info and features if this SAMSUNG 512MB PC2700 (http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80040) is the real thing?
or should I go with another brand of DDR PC2700? Which would you recommend for an all-around system w/ an AMD XP2000+, Albatron kt400 pro, 2 80G HD and 128 radeon 8500LE (not overclocked yet, until i get my system up and running and figure out how).
TIA for your suggestions.

From my understanding....I believe that my board can only support DDR PC 1600/2100/2700
but wished it could support PC3200.

The FSB only goes up to 166Mhz on the Albatron KX400+ mobo but there's a setting called "DDR:CPU Ratio", which lets you to select the 2.5x ratio (2.5x 166Mhz = 400Mhz DDR instead of 2x 166Mhz = 333Mhz). Get the better memory so you could push your system further. I never tried this function before since the system I put together for a friend has a crappy PC2100 RAM.

Cool!...thanks for the info...I am going to try run with PC3200
what brand would you guys recommend on PC3200?
and another question, by running at this speed....would it have any adverse effect on the mobo in the long run?
TIA
P.S. damn corsair 512 pc3200 is quite expensive at newegg.com about 185 +tax

This "company" is so bad its almost laughable (they way you laugh when some poor dude snowboards into a tree at high speed)
Sorry. What really needs to happen is pricewatch needs to stop covering BuyAIB's prices. :bash: I'm fairly sure that pricewatch keeps them in "business"
