I'm doing some research. I want to know where you guys tend to buy your music online. In addition to the poll above, can you list your favorite site and why? Esp. if your choice is genre related.

Thanks!

Dang, I forgot to add Best Buy, but I would think you wouldn't tend to buy from there online anyway.

actually that is where I tend to buy most of my stuff.

But I only buy Cd's when they are on sale. I've been known to shop mostly at Best Buy, Tower Records' and cdnow.com, with sparing hits at sam goody and wherehouse.

I guess mine would be a combo of "used" and "other." I go to hippieville (aka Berkeley) to buy used CD's at the smaller music stores like Rasputin's and Amoeba. :)

I get mine off Kazaa then just burn it. :hihi: You know the record companies worst nightmare. Although I did buy the new Springsteen CD at Tower, the first CD I bought in about three years.

people still buy CD's?! :P i'd buy at most of those places, as long as its on sale. And Nija, if you buy lots of CD's from Tower Records, you may be interested in www.studentadvantage.com membership. they have discounts for various places, including tower..

I never buy CD's retail. I work BMG for the deals. Getting 4 or 5 CD's for $25.00 repeatedly. I have over 600 at this time, after 5 years, from the setup I work on them.

hmm... i only bought cd's online when i was looking for something obscure, or when there were free shipping charges. plus, when i want to hear something, i want to hear it right away. i'm just impatient like that.

so when i do buy music in person, i used to shop at tower, since they have deals on new releases. but now, since i rarely buy music when it first comes out, i usually shop at best buy cuz they have decent prices most of the time. i'll never pay more than $15 for a typical CD again.

oh and we have an amoeba in LA now too, but i have yet to check it out. :D

Most of the time http://www.cduniverse.com. If not there, then Amazon.com

Honestly, the last CD I bought legit, was Metallica S&M way back when. I just listen to MP3s now. Even all my legit CDs are in MP3 format.

I use to do the BMG/Columbia house deals, but they got tedious with not all the choices I wanted. The rest of my CD collection come from Wherehouse, Sam Goody, little shops for Korean stuff and others.

Funny, all these posts from people who don't buy but the MP3 part of the poll only has 2 votes?

BTW, there should have been a choice of "Pirate" since it seems that's what many do.

i buy from half.com almost exclusively.

there are a few used cd stores around that i hit now and then, but usually their prices are higher than what i'd pay on half.com, and unless i want to drive to ann arbor, the selection sucks.

i've been known to buy an occasional new cd, but that's pretty rare.

I don't buy a lot of music online, and the last time I did (about a year ago), it was at Amazon. Or maybe it was CDNow. I don't remember.

I work in downtown Chicago, and we've got about 5 really good stores within walking distance of my office. That's where I buy most of my music.

And I agree with chosen about the online mp3s-- a lot of them are just plain lousy quality.

Most of the CDs I buy online are direct from the artists' websites or through CD Baby (or FolkWeb or other small companies).

Go independents!
