Gas station attendant Jimmy Akca witnessed one of the attacks.

"I heard a bomb sound. I look out … saw no accident," Akca said. "I call police, next to car see lady laying down."

Do they seriously quote these people word for word?? I mean, I know I shouldn't making comments like this when it is a serious matter.

But couldn't they have made the grammar a little better.

...sniper...awp...

too much cs...

anyway, that guy's a sicko...why they hell would u go out and SNIPE poor defenseless ppl? it doesnt even give a sufficient description on where they were shot, if they were all headshots...then i'd say that this sniper is damn skilled...but if the shots are constantly in a certain radius of, say...the head...or another target, then he's not that good of a sniper but still damn dangerous. they need to place SWAT and special Ops snipers around...to counter him...but i doubt that that will work either.

The police are out in force.

The kids in schools in all jurisdictions in this area were kept indoors today.

Who knows where the nut{s} is now cause the highway is nearby.

SBP: Do you work there or live there?

I live there and so I'm kinda weary of going to Shoppers, Super Fresh, and Giant b/c that's where the shots were taken.

I try not to stand out in the open too long now. Creepy tell ya. Catch those bastards before I starve.

Some people are speculating terrorism.
I don't want to say, this is the sort of stuff you do in video games, not real life. What's he doing with a sniper rifle anyway, are civilians allowed to own stuff like that?

mcs328

it could be a hunting rifle and he's been practicing his sniper skills. I think you can own stuff like this...just look at leon's own cache of stuff :P

yah...i'm ordering pizza for a while.

Yeah, a decked out hunting rifle can be pretty accurate. Although, Maryland has pretty strict gun laws...

with the proper license, someone like myself could own a .50 caliber Sniper Rifle, capable of delivering an accurate from between .5 and 1.5 miles away (depending on the shooters skill).

Also, the time between firing and impact would be (i think) around 2 - 4 secs, and then another 2 - 4 secs before you HEARD the shot fired.

yes... that's the definition of a QUOTE.

and, yes, they could have improved the grammar. then it wouldn't be a quote. it would be some reporter's opinion of what someone else should have said. kind of like newspapers like in totalitarian societies - "the news as we think it should be!" woo-hoo.

This guy is not a sniper. A sniper is someone who shoots from a concealed location. Just cause someone is a good shot does not make them a sniper.

The shooter or shooters appeared to be very skilled, killing each victim with a single shot. The shots in some the slayings came from a far distance, and only one shot missed its target.

...
This morning four more people were killed within a three-hour period at nearby locations. Buchanan was killed on a riding lawn mower in the White Flint area, and a short while later Walekar was fatally shot while pumping gas at a Mobil station.

A single shot in the head then killed Ramos at the post office at the Leisure World retirement community in Silver Spring, and Lewis-Rivera was killed at a Shell gas station a hour and a half later, as she was vacuuming her minivan.

sounds like a sniper. and a fairly decent one.

Police say the person or persons are either using a sniper rifle or a hunting rifle. Using a .222 or .223 caliber ammo.
Now no one has been able to spot the person. All they know is that a white "box" truck was heard speeding off after a gunshot was fired. Now, since people didn't SEE the person shooting, doesn't that mean the gunman was "concealed"? If I climbed on top of a roof to soon someone, would that make me a sniper? if I was standing next to a trash can, would that make me a sniper?
For crying out loud!!! Does it freaking matter? He sick bastard is taking out innocent people and all you can say "he's not a sniper...blah blah"

It doesn't even need to be decked out. I could take a standard issue military rifle from 80 years ago, a box of ammo, and spend an hour at a range with it. The next day, I could easily shoot people in the head from 200-400 yards away, no scope.

well, it think that traditionally, journalists are encouraged to not purposely quote something in a way that makes someone look stupid. in other words, if you can chop out a few words and improve the grammar without changing the meaning of the quote, then do it.

otherwise, you see the other extreme where journalists who have an "agenda" quote people saying certain things to further that agenda.

You can easily walk into wal mart and buy a .22 rifle with a scope for under 300$. Buy a 12$ box of ammo and do whatever. This guy is a wacko.

Yeah, but they can always paraphrase, if they want.

There was someone killed in DC last night. It was confirmed by ballistic tests, done by the same gun. And a woman also may have been wounded by them in Virginia. The nuts are still out there.

they should lock down the entire state's road system...no in or out, and hope that the sniper is still stuck inside. then u can slowly flip the state upside down and shake it...and see if he falls out

I could do the same thing with a Ruger .22 rifle (used to be able to get one for around $150 at WalMart). It's not the weapon that is dangerous, it is the nut case behind it. They guy obviously knows what he is doing, otherwise he would be caught by now. Just hope they catch him soon.
This is sick.
