I am looking for a large firewire drive to hook up to my Powerbook to use for video editing. Can anyone recommend one?

Thanks!

Usually, its cheaper to buy an internal drive then buy a kit to convert it to external. You save like $30 doing it that way.

i say get the lacie d2. 120 GB of storage, and its prebuilt. The component kits are cheaper though, so almost anything oxford 911 based with a WD 80GB SE would be plenty as well.

Money isn't really an issue. Unless it's like $200 more I would prefer something that is compact and all in one.

I'll check out that lacie. Thanks fellas.

I think an se would be a waste of money since it seems that all of the enclosures I've seen only support up to 2MB cache's and not 8MB. But PLEASE, prove me wrong 'cause I will pick one of the se's at compusa today then.

the ipod takes a performance hit when it comes to using it as a portable harddrive because of the drive used (pcmcia). I use mine for photoshop work, and it works great, but for video editting, its not the absolute best choice.

the capacity of an ipod is borderline for editting as well. You sacrifice some storage space to your music, therefore you will be limiting yourself.
