i always think there is a fine line for banning someone's work IP. he may not be the only one using that computer....

I would think that that would be normal procedure. They didn't ban the account, they banned the person. If you don't block the IP address, what keeps that person from just creating a new account and logging on again?
Collateral damages suck, but what can you say?
I agree with chosen, too. I think Dopey is a great guy, and I'm sorry to see him go. However, he made his own decisions, and these are the repercussions. :shrug:

Unfortunately certain ips of those banned have to be blocked. This situation sadly is no different. This makes it harder to create a new account, come back and cause trouble again.

now once again, can we move on with our lives? We seem to have a thread about this whole topic of dopey being banned every few days. he is gone. GAM has made it so he cannot come back. life goes on.

Ok...well NO ONE in his office can browse the forums at all, AND I've known of a couple of his co-workers to look thru got deals occasionally.... :rolleyes:

Now that is VERY interesting...how come Dopey couldn't do that with "religious" threads or comments...esp since it seems that's one of the reasons he started this whole mess.

For one who doesn't want to be here and doesn't care about the forums, he sure seems intent to be hanging around. Its all about causing a ruckus and appears to be another thread to feed his ego. Its like he believes the forums haven't moved on without him. :rolleyes:
Fact of the matter is there was a whole series of lame things he done while here. Like digging up old threads for no reason even after being asked not to repeatly. :disa:
Dopey was the primary reason why people with 5k+ posts can no longer put in their own titles. He kept engaging in this immature behavior of changing his title. Dopey was the big reason why visible posts counts were removed. Even after all that happened, Dopey still continued to nef so he could get to 10k first. In comparison, DarkFury gracefully allowed Dopey to get there first.
Then Dopey went around moping cause he didn't get his way about post totals showing and other matters. And its no surprise Dopey couldn't comprehend why a flamebait troll would not be allowed on the forums.
After that Dopey went too far in his quest to get banned-he put a callous picture in his sig. You see Dopey is glad that 9/11 happened. That however gives him no right to piss on everyone observing a solemn event. That lame picture was taken out of his sig and he purposely put it back. Then he chose to come back under another name. During the timeout, 2 emails were sent out hoping Dopey would respond positively. Instead he came back with an attitude.
Then Dopey went over to AnandTech forums to cause trouble on/with another forum. :2far: He got pissed at the AnandTech mods cause one of them locked his lying thread (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=881041&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=arc).
Its disappointing Dopey chose to be this way. Plenty of patience was exercised but he just didn't want to be here and was unhappy. Fact is Dopey was given the numerous opportunities to take responsibility and grow up. Chance after chance given, at every turn it was refused. Yet it spite of all that, Dopey was given a wonderful opportunity to come back with a fresh start. Being willing to work things out and be responsible-its the mature thing to do. Dopey sadly chose to be otherwise and even admitted it. And the only thing he has accomplished is losing everyone's respect.

well, persoanly I am a little glade that we were attacted the way we were ( yes it was bad, but it could have been worse ie a nuke ) I am not happ about the deths, but personaly I think people just need to move on, nothing is going o happen dwelling on things.
Thats the quote from him on AT. I don't know what he thinks, but by reading that, I'm assuming that he believed we're fortunate to not have been attacked worse (ie. a nuke), and not necessarily glad that the events of 9/11 occured. But what do I know? And like he stated above, "I think people just need to move on, nothing is going o happen dwelling on things", which was his views on 9/11, and should apply in this case as well. It seems we have a tendancy to do that sort of thing, which he was annoyed of. :shrug:

Perhaps he has shown a pattern of lame behavior. But I was merely commenting at the statement you made. There is a fine line between being glad the events did happen, and being glad it wasn't worse. I'm not saying he should get what he wants. He was voicing his opinion, as does most people here.
And the more I look at it, the more it seems you two are just at a cat fight. :shrug:

Maybe when dopey told me something, he was fibbing about how he felt. But when he told me (directly, not posted on a forum) "I'm glad 9/11 happened." not "I'm glad 9/11 happened the way it did." to me, that means he was glad America was attacked. He has told me he does not like America.
He never bothered to clarify that at all. So I'll just leave it at that.

yeah, wow i have really missed alot by not visiting ot everyday. i knew nothing bout dopey leaving or anything i just figured he was busy and couldnt post as much (thats why i havent been posting as much). its kinda sad that people have to be banned but i can understand why it has to happen. if they just let it slide then everyone would start to do stuff wrong. there is rules to maintain order...not to be broken
