I used my $15 g.c. for cdnow from that intel survey on the gov't mule cd that is coming out on the 18th. I recieved the cd yesterday. I thought it was great that i had the cd 10 days before release and it was legit!!!
The CD came with a second disc so it made the deal even better. The second cd isnt mentioned anywhere that i have found, and its not even mentioned in the cd booklet.
I am very pleased with my first experience with cdnow.

how is it that cdnow can send out copies of an album before its release date?

i think they have to expect the worst case scenario when shipping and allot the full 2 week time for media mail. it shipped on the 4th, so 14 days later would be the release date

then again, you can download albums online in advance.. most i've seen so far is like 2 months in advance.

i used CDNow once.
i ordered 5 CDs, which were shipped in 3 different shipments. one shipment of 1 cd arrived and it was the wrong CD. another shipment of 3 CDs never came.
so all that was kind of annoying, but their customer service was great. they sent a second shipment of the 3 missing CDs, and they sent out a replacement for the incorrect CD, along with a return postage label to send back the bad CD.
overall, i wasn't EXTREMELY happy with CDNow, but at least they were more than happy to fix their mistakes.

I used to use CDNOW extensively when they first started out (and there weren't as many choices) and never really had any problems with them. After awhile, they started adding popup advertising for other non-cdnow-related sites every single time you clicked on a link to preview a song. That annoyed me to no end and I actually wrote their customer service to tell them that I would be doing my business elsewhere from now on because as a paying customer, I didn't feel that I should be subjected to obtrusive ads for irrelevent merchandise from other stores while browsing and I could get the same CDs at the same prices at Amazon where there were no annoying ads.
Well surprisingly about a week later I received a $10.00 gift certificate in the mail and an apology and I never had any popups after that. So I remained their customer for a while, although now I use services like pricescan (http://www.pricescan.com) to find which company has the best price and order from there. I love having choices. :)
