Hello folks, I am new here. In fact I joined simply due to this (http://www.gotapex.com/reviews.php?rev=processors/cpu-battle/index.html) article posted on the main page.....

Maybe you have heard of THG? this article reminds me of the output over there:(

Now I am not an AMD "fanboy", in fact I have no preference on chips other than cheap and high performance- this is an area where Intel is now making a good showing.

But what I do take exception to is mention of overclocking when apparently the author knows little of the subject:

"The core clock multiplier is locked at 15.0, so we were forced to overclock by means of increasing the FSB."
This is a perfect example. One of the most common reasons that AMD is often favored is that you CAN unlock the chip.

I am not trying to flame, or cause trouble, but I do want to point out to the people who run this site that knowledgeable people DO find these articles, and that your reputation may suffer if you post erroneous and uneducated reviews.

The biggest joke I am aware of in the Internet Hardware Review/ Performance websites genre nowadays is THG- and because of articles just like the one I linked to.

Your statement is erroneous in and of itself. You cliam that my statement is "uneducated"? That is laughable. Obviously you have not been writing for a while else you would understand that you need to adjust the content to the auduience you are writing to. My statement:

"The core clock multiplier is locked at 15.0, so we were forced to overclock by means of increasing the FSB."

Is completely accurate. Can you change the core clock by software BIOS toggles? NO....do you have to do actual modifications to the chip? YES. Is this of interest to the majority of our community? NO. Is overclocking as complicated as you think it is? No. DO you actually think overclocking is so difficult that there are individuals who can not execute it as you do? Wrong, we just don't care to.

Is this a fact that you just can not grasp is that we are well aware of the fact that you can unlock the multiplier but do not wish to do that as it is in fact a hack for the only goal being overclocking. Overclocking is not our primary focus here at G|A?. If you want to read artices that really push overlocking, I personally love HARD OCP, as they cater to that audience as well. Stay away from overclockers dot com , however as they tend to post erroneous findings just for the shear hit value and often try to start trouble such as they are trying to with us and they did previously with HardOCP.

Incidentally I am one of the owners of this site and the only thing that you have pointed out to me is that you actuall believe that we should shift the whole focus of our reviews to cater to the overclockers? Not interested sorry.

While I do understand that audiences differ, if mention is made of a topic that most people are probably not familiar with, clarification and explanation are probably good things:)

If you don't want to get into an explanantion of a side topic it should probably not be brought up, methinks;)

Hardcore overclocking is NOT a hobby that most computer users will ever become involved in, but even mild overclocking is not common.
And with most modern cpus it is hard to not get at least a 100mhz overclock out of them when used in anything but OEM motherboards.

If you bring up overclocking, or want to be seen as a site that helps people to "redline your pc and get mileage from your wallet" then you might want to either:
a)reconsider your audience
b)include some "testing disclaimers" during reviews such as the aforementioned one. Something to the effect that none of the normal steps will be taken while overclocking this cpu, as you want to see what it can do without any effort on your behalf.

Since you mentioned taking fewer steps than even the newest person to overclocking, and displayed little knowledge of the subject of overclocking, you MUST have expected some response!

You may well know a great deal more about the subjects of computers and overclocking than do I, and you certainly get the opportunity to play with newer processors, but the article struck me badly as misinformation, and I feel that there is enough of that about computers and overclocking that I do not let such things pass.

I apologize for being an arrogant, obnoxious S.O.B., but that is what I am;)

And you are right: this is your site and your audience- I am sure you know it much better than I do.

And I will leave this post right there (see line 1;))
