Say you were a web developer and you wanted to provide web hosting to your clients....

What equipment would you need and what are the best brands/models, what technology would you need/the best to use AND how exactly would you go about it?

Also, take into consideration that you want to primarily support PHP/My SQL...maybe others, but that's your priority since that's what you will be providing to your clients.

Wow, that's a big question.

Here's what you need to know to start researching:

- how many clients (sites)
- what services (http, ftp, pop3, etc.)
- what is the estimated traffic for each site
- what platforms will you support (Windows, Linix, Sun, etc)
- will you co-locate
- shared or dedicated servers
- what SLA will you provide, in terms of uptime and bandwidth

There are more questions, but you need to at least know these basics to determine what type of servers, routers and connection you need to shop for.

That's great! Thanks.

It gives me a good start...this isn't something I would be doing right away, but at least when I'm ready, I'll know my stuff.

Keep the suggestions/info coming!!
