Ok, so theoretically this might belong in Hardware, but I think its ok for here since its not really a hardware question but rather an experience question with some hardware. If the GAM wants to move it, feel free.

So I was wondering if anyone else out here with Dell computers has the drive falling out for no reason. It doesnt matter whether its the CDRW or the floppy, they both fall out. It will be firmly locked in one minute and detached the next. I have already sent my computer back to Dell three times for this problem. Now the Airborne Express guy, the same one came all three times, he had 3 other Inspirion 8100's in the truck, which he showed me, were all coming in for the same reason.

So figuring that there were 4 Inspirons being picked up just here in the North County area...I figured I would ask everyone here in the Got Apex community if they have had the same problems?

the newer systems uses the toolless cases and have a green plastic clip holding in the drive. The plastic doesnt hold up as well as their old style cases did when they used metal rails to hold in the drives. I have not had a drive physically fall out, but i have seen the green plastic weaken and in a few cases start to crack

Do you mean the drives in the "Media Bay"? I have an Inspiron 8200 and have not had a problem. I'll be sure the keep and eye on it now...

Yes I did mean the removable media bay. I thought I was being clear..guess I wasnt. I have had no problems with my fixed media bay.

If you are talking about optiplex my girlfriend and her mother both have one with out any problems. Perhaps its AirBorn Express and bad package handeling.

You would probably get more and more relevant responses with a better subject line.

Something along the lines of:
Trouble with Dell Inspiron 8100's removable media bay
