I am at my job, working hard mind you, all of a sudden I get a popup message like the ones built into NT products, (from the net send program in dos aka Console Message) I WAS APPALED. I get 500 spam messages a month, but now to get them on my desktop. Take a look and tell me if this isn't outrageous. Some spam deletion site probably sucked off my IP and is now spamming me at the frontline. DOES IT NEVER END!??

Mind you I now have the firewall up, but I used the console messaging service to get memos from co-workers. WHAT A PAIN.

Hmmmm... they could just go through all IPs. Just send a canned mesasge using an incremented list.
I'm surprised it didn't happen until now. That really sucks though.

You know I had one of those pop up about a week ago. I thought it was something that was somehow coming across from MSN Messenger and it got me kind of annoyed at MSN. My MSN icon was flashing at the time when it appeared, so it looked like that was the nexus. Guess my reasoning was flawed.

That is outrageous. Scum buckets like that make me want to take up arms.

Can you set up your firewall to just block TCP and UDP ports 137 through 139 for all non-local IP addresses? That way you could still use the messenger service on the LAN but no one outside could.

tell coworkers to email you That's not a very good solution. Net Send is a great way to send an urgent message to all workstations on the network, like "Rebooting Server in 10 minutes." If you send that in an email, you're assuming everyone has their email client running and is going to open the email within 10 minutes.
