I have an almond colored bezel for a slot cd-rom I want to convert to jet black. A friend recommended spray paint, any other options out there?

I've painted the bezels on my computer and spray paint is the way to go. I would recommend spraying them with automotive primer first and then applying 2 coats. Depending on the paint you get you may also want to put a coat or two of clear finish on to protect the look over time. Make sure to let the paint dry for at least a day between coats so as to help prevent chipping.

Remember to remove the faceplate from the drives before painting. Most of them just have little plastic tabs on opposing sides.

As for Topane's brilliant idea, get a black marker. This is the easiest way to color the thumb wheel that many CD drives have. It is also the simplest way to touch up any paint chips you get.

go to your local automotive store and get some Vinyl Dye. It could also be called Vinyl color. Those are the best for painting any type of plastic, no primer needed and you can just recoat for a new finish months down the road. Some hardware stores also carry them, I know I've seen them at OSH.

They're a little more expensive than normal spray paint but the results are nice. Look at my comp to see how mine turned out, I have the same exact drive you do.

V dye works the best IMO.

Another vote for vinyl paint. I just discovered it this summer, and it works great on plastics, carpets, and (of course) vinyl.
