Blocking addresses...

In hotmail, they have the option of creating a block address list... up to 250, I believe, and they also have the option of blocking a domain. now, what I've noticed is that some of the newer spam emails have addresses like: [email protected]

My question is, if I set it to block @yaddayadda.com, will it still block [email protected]?

I know that's a lot of yaddas, but I couldn't really help it. :D

Looks like you'll be fine if you drop the "@." Taken from About.com (http://email.about.com/library/daily/et/02/04/bl_et042402.htm):
If you enter "about.com", for example, all mail from [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and so on will be blocked from your Hotmail Inbox.

Well, I've been just blocking everthing after the @, but I will still get spam. For example, I'll block 001.yadda.com, and then I'll get another email from 002.yadda.com. My question is, if hotmail considers those to be different domains, can I just block yadda.com and get both of them with one shot?

Depending on the volume of mail you receive from spammers employing this tactic , you could create filters instead (looks like Hotmail supports up to 11 filters). As long as the "From" field contains "yaddayadda," you can have Hotmail transfer it to the Trash. :shrug:

I read (in WIRED I think) that Google was working with MSN to build a proactive email blocking point system that's just brilliant. When you mark a message as spam, that message and address has a point added to it. As more ppl mark the message as spam, the message gets more points. You then set your client to automatically block all messages that have more than X points. Sounds really cool-works like Google's hugely succesful search engine.

I got the same problem. I always get one about ink jets. or Info.Quote that changes their @ address by appending an incremental prefix. And then I get ones with the Name is the same but the address wil be completely different. Sigh...DIE SPAMMERS!!! :angry:
