I've been hearing all sorts of weird noises from my computer, and I think I've pretty much decided its the chipset fan, looks like it might be dying, how do I switch it?

buy some artic silver thermal paste (paste, not compund), carefully remove the older cooler, clean up the chipset top and paste new cooler to the chipset accroding to the thermal plaste application instructions

Any good suggestions for a chipset cooler? A quiet one, if possible? Any are all coolers the same size?

Do I really need a fan on it, or can I just buy a heatsink to cool the Northbridge(which I'm assuming that fan is cooling right now)?
I'm think about getting a Zalman Aluminum heatsink, ZM-NB32J.

I'd go the heatsink route. Those tiny motherboard fans are so noisy.

This should be last question about this, will a heatsink only do the job so I don't fry my mobo?
