Ok, I finally got Dell to agree to replace my damn 8100 laptop. Of course, Dell is only willing to give me a refurbished unit which will be in "new condition and the equivalent or better of your current system".

So my question stems from the fact that I have the 64MB 4x AGP ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 in this system. I remember when I bought this system that there were problems with the Geforce cards, which is why I paid the extra for this card. Now when I checked with the CSR he told me that there would be an equivalent card in there, either the 64 mb Radeon 9000 or a 64mb GeForce card.

I told him that I remembered that there were problems with the GeForce cards and that I didnt want to get stuck with one of those cards. He told me that there were no longer any problems with the GeForce cards and that I shouldnt worry about it, but I couldnt tell them which card they had to put in.

So my question is, are the newer GeForce cards ok, or are they still inferior to the ATI Radeons?

Also, has anyone else found that Dell will only give a refurbished unit when they are replacing a system? And if you have received a refurb, is the quality still there?

Thanks

The latest mobility solution by ATI, the Mobility Radeon 9000, is better than Nvidia's latest.

All Nvidia has to answer to it is a faster GF4 Go.

I got a replacement laptop once (under the complete care warranty), and the config they sent was actually much nicer than my old machine.

The only prob I've had with my 8100's Geforce is was the crappy driver that XP came with. Nvidia's worked fine.

Well I definitely think I am going to call back the CSR today and insist that the replacement comes with the current version of my card (which they told me is the 9000). I figure I paid extra for this card the first time, I want to keep my edge.

I always heard about the problems with the 8100 and the GF2 GO card but I have never experienced any problems with mine.
