The tech who installed my Time Warner cable modem service said there is a way to speed up your cable modem service. Any truth to that?

You could try to uncap the cable modem but I can't seem to do it with the RCA modem (TimeWarner). I ran the program to collect the data but it doesn't recognize the modem! I didn't try it again since!

Yeah... Timewarner just replaced my modem w/ an RCA. How does this uncapping actually work?

There is a config file that the modem runs upon every boot up sequence that it grabs from your isp's side..
The config file tells it the limit's of the upload/download
BUT, don't get caught doing this.. you'll be banned from their services for life..

hey whats up
i use time warner cable also
i have the surfboard sb4100
when the cable modem turns on it looks for a config file on time warners servers and that config file would have your max upload and download speed in it.
usings software you can make the computer get the config file from your pc rather than time warner.
i have personally done this, and the next day they called me and they said that i have a problem with my service. i said that i didnt change anything so they came to my house and gave me another modem.
there is no point in uncapping because time warner can see how fast some one is uploading and downloading.
anyways the best way to speed it up is to do what i did.
call them and complain say my internet gets slow, disconnects. and hopefully like me you could get a free upgrade.
hope this helps

from talking to various techs on the cable modem service, it seems that if you uncap the modem, you may get away with that for a week max, then the cable company notices and either cancels your service or slows you back down

i am paying (actually my company pays the bill) for 768 access but was not getting that kind of speeds. the upgraded me to the 1.5 access for free. i consistently get speeds of 1.1-1.3. how much faster would it be if i uncapped it?
