I'm selling some items on eBay. I've been selling them for $400 each. Today, I get an email asking if I'll sell for $200 for a NY City Fire Department. Does this make me a jerk for saying no? How can I even believe he even works for the NYFD? I think it's a great thing that many of the NYFD made huge sacrifices, including their lives in 9/11/01, but don't you think some peoplare trying to milk it a little too much?

I don't see how you're being a jerk. Business is business. Especially on ebay. I know its a touchy situation with the NYPD and NYFD however, its no reason for an excuse to get a discount for something. Otherwise it just becomes abused. But to re-affirm, no you're not a jerk. What matter does it who or where the guy is from. There are places to ask for discounts or help but I don't see how ebay is an apporpriate place when it is an open public forum for people to sell merchandise.

LOL. I just did a search of the items that he has bid on... And the most recent one was "Hidden, Adult Verification Required." SO I clicked on it..."MaxaMAN! NEW Penis Enlargement PILLS! WORKS!!"

I guess some of the firemen in NY have gone through some shrinkage since the incident.

Well, I would offer to give them a 10% discount for being a member of NYFD...upon proof that he is actually a fireman. This way, you are being a civic minded individual but not being taken as a sap. I mean, you said you are selling it for $400 he wants it for $200...offer it for $360, its better than your normal price.

Thats some bull*****! That @shole is using dead people to try to cut deals. I doubt any fireman from NY or anywhere for that matter, would try to use Sept 11th as a way to get a deal himself.

woah. um... no it doesnt make u a jerk. u dont even know if he is or he isnt from the nyfd, so i'd just email him saying somethin like "i cant really verify that you're a fireman or not" or something along those lines. :shrug: thats just me though.

Ok so because he's a fireman you should give him a discount why? Honestly,it's really starting to get to me..all this.."9/11" stuff..YES, the men were hero's for rushing in and trying to save people..YES, they died doing their job above and beyond the cause..Yes, lives were lost,families shattered,etc etc..and I'm truly sorry that it all happened, but let me remind you-there are MORE people in the world who are everyday hero's..Mom's who stop their children from choking,Women who carry babies for their children because they can't have babies themselves,teachers-that step in when kids are falling through the cracks..Nursing home workers that are dedicated to the old people they care for,Nurses,Doctors,Cross Guards..etc etc..who never get any kind of recognition. Whoever this guy is should be ashamed of himself..ask him what firehouse he is stationed at-then place a phone call and verify if he is buying for who he says he is..if not-report him to ebay and get his ass canned..as far as the discount goes. NO,a business is a business,sell at your determined price.

Oh you are indeed a jerk but not because of this :hihi: . He is a fireman who does his job, clooects his paycheck, and a pretty nice menu of benefits. I think by paying your taxes you are taking good enough care of him and should not have to pay an additional premium by providing an unreasonable discount. Actually, it sounds like someone is attempting to be opportunistic at your expense.
