Alright, I am playing Diablo 2 and most of the time my computer runs fine, but if I run into a horde of bad guys, everything goes to slow motion. The guy is chopping at about 1 mile per hour and it's pissing me off. Further more, when I go online to play multiplayer with my friend, Anytime I'm even near him and fighting bad guys it goes to about 1 frame per second. It's like click, click, click but really slow like. I have an 800Mhz processor, 396 mb of ram(133mhz cas2), 24mb video card, 32x cd rom, and dial up(46.6k connect). I know my modem uses some of my processor(since it doesn't have it's own onboard) when it's running but shouldn't there be enough left to make the game run better than what it's doing? I'm just wondering if any of you have some tips for me.
I've tried taking away all of the pretty windows stuff(I have xp) like the cursor shadows and all that. I've also tweaked the video card with Riva Tuner. Is there anything else I can do besides that? I was wondering if there's a way I could commit more memory to the game or load the damn thing into memory. Something like that. I get the feeling my computer isn't putting enough effort as it could into the game. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :D

D2 uses a lot of ram. XP uses a lot of ram too.

I originally ran D2 on a cel 400 with like 384 pc100 ram and a 4500 card. It was on win98se and the vid card was a little better but it would still lag when someone spamed the screen with stuff.

Your best bet would be to get a new card. Try to find at least a ti200. My ti200 oc'd to 229/530 would handle most all the stuff thrown at it. A Radeon 9700pro should take care of all your problems. :P

good luck,

I'm stuck with a built in card on the mobo. I get a bad taste in my mouth now even when I read about onboard sound let alone video. Hate it hate it.... Anyways, I found a D2 accelerator. Maybe it will help... Thanks for your help though jello;)
