Once you put all these rules on posts (like a request folder) this forum will be less and less like a community, and more and more like a court room. Lets all remember what happened to Anandtech. Of course Apex's request for a descriptive title is not a restrictive rule, rather one that just makes finding what you are looking for easier.
Just a quick note for everyone. Please use descriptive subjects for your posts here. As this forum starts to grow, this will help get things organized. For instance, if you found a great deal on a hard drive at buy.com this would be a good title:
Maxtor 13.6GB HD at Buy.com for $99 + Ship.
This would kind of suck:
good deal, must read
If you're asking for a deal, this would be a good descriptive subject to use:
Where are cheapest 128MB PC133 SDRAM DIMMS?
while this would kind of suck:
help please
Pretty basic, common sense stuff. I think this will help everybody out as we grow and find more and more deals. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you had a lokking for folder then nobody would go there and it would be pointless/

I agree with Mohap. Too bad what Apex is saying has to be said, I thought it would be one of those common sense kind of things.

Everybody would go there because if you thought you were getting a good deal on a HD or something, going there would confirm your suspicion. I would post on there just to help others out.
Apex, would this be possible?

Wouldn/t you want to see if someone was looking for what you had to sell?

SOund like a good idea to me. It would be nice to have the place a little uniformed. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ya.. this is a GOOD thing. Apex won't dictate in here, because he is cool like that.
Anything he has ever suggested or asked of us is something that will better this community.
Or maybe he did it for people on dial-up so they don't have to waste loading time going into a topic that says "great deal" and find out it is something they are not interested in. hmmm... http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

i don't like the idea of a "looking for..." forum; i agree that people wouldn't check there very often. It would just be a blackhole to dump requests.
ProMinx
one thing that might be kind of bitchy but i'll throw it out there...
I know this doesnt apply to most people, but it would be great if peeps would just scan the first page or so of the deals page to see if the New Topic youre about to post has been posted recently. When there are too many doubles, it makes it hard to follow a thread... Especially when the same person posts more than one topic about the same deal...(that "free" webcam from the art store for $150 worth of stuff)
just my thoughts, there have been a number of doubles recently.
i agree about the rules thing though

another thing that persons submitting new posts could do is use the "search" function to see if anyone else has already submitted the deal they found.

SUGGESTION: When answering someone's post, if the answer has already been posted in another thread, post the link to that old thread (if convenient to you) instead of reposting an all new answer. This also helps maintain the quality of information in threads and avoids repeats or re-inventing the wheel everytime someone is too lazy to try using the SEARCH for the topic keyword or reading the previous index page.
I am appalled that some people don't even read the SAME index page and the topic is already posted there. This brings to mind a story about the teenage kid across the street from me. He's a smart kid going to major in medicine. He would ask me questions that were already in his manuals or user guides. When asked why he kept asking instead of reading the material in front of him, he honestly replied that it would waste his time to read the manuals when he could get the same or better answer by just asking me since he knew that I would give him an answer. Why waste his time when he could waste mine (ie, have other people do the research for you).

Aw, poo, I forgot to use "shiver me timbers"! No, I don't have a thesaurus. I was thinking of talking like a pirate for the rest of the day today (in the forums, not at work), but I can't find one of those "translators". If anyone can find me, lemme know...for some serious annoyance.

Another thing that annoys me is that when a topic starts of fine with the right title and the right kind of deal but segues to another topic like a type of car that they use or something like that.
What's that heat I'm feeling..... AAARRGGHH!!! FLAMES!!!! hehehe http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Here is my thought. When new users sign up for this forum, why not add your Apex FAQ on "how to post" on their sign up page. This will inform the new users on posting rules and maybe reduce this bad posting we have all endured.
Just my 2 cents...

I agree that FIRST AND FOREMOST GOTAPEX ROCKS!!! Its the best forum out there, the friendliest and most easy-going...
...Apex's comments are VERY helpful, so that we can find the hot deals we want easily, but there will always be a few people who just write "HOT DEAL!" just so somebody will pay attention to them, and this cannot be helped b/c these people dont care about helping the community....
regarding the "looking for?" question posts, i think they are just fine here since many of us only read this forum and this forum is not only about posting hot deals, but helping others get a hot deal too..this "friends helping friends" way of working is most beneficial for all of us...
and regarding if someone posts a question that has already been discussed, I think a simple suggestion such as "do a search" or just give the related post URL is good, as many people have not used search, even if they have been here a while...flaming wont help any, and sometimes it is good to rekindle a previously discussed topic..
Has anyone noticed that recently, the number of posts with deals is being outnumbered by the number of posts requesting deals?
If this keeps up, I think the deals page may die.
Though admittedly, the major factor is probably the stock market taking the wind out of ecommerce, and with it, all the deals. And there's nothing to be done about that. Or then again, maybe its everyone (but me) being on summer break.

That eye patch deal was so retarded; i got mine about a month back, an i was like "hmm...this should be cool," and it was just some eye-patch that you wera in your sleep to make the skin around your eyes feel better or something like that. We all got burned (although it seems that some of you didn't get yours yet...).

ps - don't worry AJ; you won't have your highest poster status for long; in about two months, when i get back to school, i'll drop into my routine and take over again.
