I just got this Barnes and Noble Mastercard, I was suppose to get $50 towards my next purchase to B&N with it, well when I called to activate it I asked and they said after I spend $25 at B&N in 10-12 weeks they mail me a $50 Gift Certificate... err I had my eye on this Wrox Professional ASP.NET book... Ohh well they have a ncie little program, For every Buck I spend at B&N I get two points, for every Buck I spend elsewhere I get one point. Every 1000 points I get a $10 GC, but probably not for 10-12 weeks which is annoying.

Then I remember, hey what happened to that Discover Card Upgrade I was sent? I already have a Discover card and they sent me an application for a better card. I filled it out and never got a response. So I called and they said "Yes you have the account, but it is not activated." So I asked what happened they said "I am sorry, we don't know, must have gotten lost in the mail, If you like we can send it out to you again, and for your trouble we will credit $10 to your account." Well who am I to turn down insta $10! They reps were very nice.

I think that is how the mastercard should work, get credit right to your account.

uhm, i never had troubles with Discover.. but my sister just had a big quarrel wif 'em the other night..

before she left for japan, she lost her card. she reported it, and they sent her a new card, new number. she never received it. so off she went to Japan.. and since she was staying there a few months, they sent her a card there (i think).. but that was with her old number.. they told her to use that one, and it will be transferred to the new account... that seemed strange, but she did it.. she didn't receive any statements whatsoever.. she couldn't access her new account online because she didn't have the #.. she called and asked bout it, they said there will be no late charges, to cut up the old card, and the new one will arrive shortly.. so when she gets back, still no card.. she contacts them again.. and they said its impossible that it could happen, and put blame on her. they basically accused her of tryin to get out of payin late charges.. the csr was of no help.. the manager did the same.. needless to say, she is cancelling her card.. and she can't redeem her rewards cuz her old account was cancelled and forwarded to the new account, which she can't access.

i on the other hand, have enjoyed it thus far.. i love cash back! hehe.. thinkin bout cashin out my bonus for double rewards for a dell or red lobsters gift certificate.. :)

credit cards are not a good thing to get entangled with.... IMHO

I use my check card from my bank, and that's it.

I think the Discover card sucks. They're cash back program has been completely revamped where it's more difficult to redeem your points and it has not been a true 1% or 2% (Depending on your card) cash back. I'd rather use my Amex or my Citibank Sony card.

I've actually been considering Amex's cashback card. I don't like points too much because it takes too much to work up to anything decent. So far, I've garnered up about 10k points on my Amex Blue card, but thats still not 'nuf to get anything decent.

The Amex Blue program is weak. The real Membership Rewards program is actually worth something. I've seen people sell the points for 2.5 cents each. That's definitely more than the weak cashbacks of other cards.

no doubt.. even though they're adding more stuff, its still kinda sucky.. i imagine all the good ones are linked to the cards that require annual fees..?

the problem with that is that if you someone gets your credit card number and buys a bunch of ****, you are only lible for up to $50. but you check card is uninsured. i would never order anything with my check card.

I have never been able to figure the advantage of those checks that the credit card companies send me. I have never used them and probably never will.

The nice thing tho is that if you have Blue and another Amex (like a Corporate card) you can get membership rewards from both cards deposited into the same account. Those business trips sure do help the points add up!

Not true. These are two different programs. The program for Blue is Membership Rewards Options and the program I have for my corporate card is Membership Rewards. The points for MRO transferred into a frequent flyer account gets cut down by half whereas MR is a 1:1 equal ratio of transfer.

Hm, maybe you're getting the shaft, 'cuz both my Blue points & my corp points are going into the same MR account at 1:1. Or perhaps I got lucky? In any case, it IS possible - but the accounts have to be linked for it to work. 40k points & counting!

Cashback programs are O.K. as long as you don't carry a balance.

If you do carry a balance, you're MUCH better off finding a low interest rate card. The money you save on interest FAR outweighs any cashback you would actually get.

check it out.

You're just lucky then. I've tried to link my accounts in the past and they couldn't... or wouldn't do it.

good if they're giving you a good rate, and you're carrying a balance on other cards. way to consolidate all your payments into a single bill. - and also saving you on interest charges.
gotta do it wisely though.
