Hmmm...a good idea about the keyboard layout. Using a telephone ABC type key entry method. It's not fast of course but you can steady the thing with one hand and type with the other.

I'm hoping you didn't know, but "Jap" is derogatory towards Japanese folks.

You don;t interperet becoming to derogatory to females, I don't interperate jap to be derogatory to japanese. Frankly, calling a british person a "brit" isnt derogatory. Calling french people "frenches" isnt derogatory. Calling an australian an "aussie" isnt derogatory. The only difference is interpretation.

I don't know if i'd call them lucky, they're used as guinea pigs when it comes to new technology. I would be so sick of buying stuff that gets discontinued.

Heh. I was hoping this wouldn't be a waste of time. Just figured I'd let you know in case you would wanted to be considerate towards others.
Do you not know the historical use of the word? Putting "frenchies" or "brits" in the same contexts as "japs" is apples and oranges.
And lastly in my suddenly realized state of futility, where did I "interpret" anything other than jap? I never mentioned anything about being derogatory to females.
Guess Nuts was right. Consider this dropped.

he was referring to this thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52776), about the word "becoming/unbecoming", and i think he was actually referring to NuTs, not to you.
of course, in that thread, he informed us that even though the dictionary doesn't say so, the word "unbecoming" is a sexist word and should not be used. in this case, on the other hand, when the dictionary (http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=jap) tells us:
Jap
n. Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a person of Japanese birth or descent.
Cantacuzene tells us that because he doesn't interpret it as derogatory, it isn't.
yup, i guess that's what happens when you're educated :heh:

I don't really care what dictionary.com says. Obviously, I'm not the only person in the country who finds "becoming" derogatory, and obviously I'm not the only one who doesn't find "jap" insulting. Don't try to make it seem like I am the only person who thinks these things. You all make it seem like its so clear that your views are the correct ones when its not cut and dry at all.

 You might feel differently if you were Japanese or of Japanese decent. As someone with these ancestries, I don't take it too well to hear Irish referred to as Micks or Italians referred to as WOPs or guineas. :hmm:

But I AM a Wop, dammit!
Now, I have to agree, Jap is bad. Instead, you should have said slanty eyed mofo.

Jap is taken as being offensive, though I grant you it is similar in style to saying Brit, it isn't what they want to hear, and that should be respected.
If you don't feel people should be respected and treated that way, then I have a word that starts with N for you, and a neighborhood I'd like to see you say it in.

Heh, if he was referring to me regarding the word, well, I didn't even read a word of it to begin with, nor post anything directed towards him, so its more like just blowing off some steam and trying to get even, an eye for an eye? Cantacuzene, these statements that you're making is so unbecoming of you. :hmm: You're becoming more of an .....
And as for the matter of being correct or not, thats hogwash. Many people of Japanese origin view the word "Japs" as offensive, and thats a fact. As a sign of mutual RESPECT, the word should be avoided, if possible. If in fact I knew that the word "Becoming" was offensive to you, I'd be apprehensive to use it, but seeing as how there is no mutual respect between you and anyone else, then screw that! For someone who considers himself "intellectual", and making comments on how other people are so "lowbrow", you're making yourself sound like a .... well, I'll allow you to fill in the blanks.
You do make some good points at times, I'll give you that much. Your whole thing about "I don't care about what others think" junk, you wouldn't be constantly defending yourself if you didn't care. It's hard to criticism, I'll admit that. I won't necessarily agree with the criticism, but when 20 people come at me with the same criticism, I'd think about my actions. But thats me.. Its good that you aren't conforming to the norms of society.. and not let anyone change you.. if you wanna remain a jackass, so be it, and good luck to you sir. And if you haven't already gotten used to all this criticism, I can assure you, by the way you post now, there'll be alot more in store for you.

Again with the quoting things I never said. I never said I was an intellectual and I never said I was highbrow or anything like that. I aspire to be considered intellectual and I try to appeciate high culture but I would never go as far as to say I am either of those things.
I can respect that japanese people don't like it and I therefore won't use it any longer. I would expect the same from you though. Obviously some japanese people take offense to "japs" and obviously some women take offense to "becoming" so why the difference? Since some people are offended by jap I wont say it, so since some peopel are also offended by becoming you shouldn't say that either. Its a two way street. You either take it or leave it.

I didn't read the whole thread regarding "Becoming" or "unbecoming", but I'll certianly respect it, if in fact it is an offensive term. And in regards to my use of it here, it was directed at you. And the context in which that thread was talking about, it was supposedly offensive towards women. So if you found that offensive, :heh:. But I shall abstain from using that word if people find it offensive.
And the whole thing about lowbrow.. You made a statement saying that it was so lowbrow that people use movie quotes as their favorite quotes, while you on the other hand used a quote from a novel, differentiating you from "them". So its reasonable to infer that you don't consider yourself lowbrow, yadda yadda. Thats what makes it seem as if you believe you believe you are better than those who are not so "highbrow".

Well, liek I said, I don't think using a quote from history or literature makes me high brow. I aspire to be considered high brow and like all other humans I enjoy the respect of other people when I get it. I didn't want to sound like I was putting myself ahead of anyone else. As far as that thread, I stand by my original statement that it is a shame that when peopel think of all time great love quotes they use a hollywood movie and not a work of literature. If I'm being a prick for saying that so be it, because I think it is a shame.

Nobody really found "becoming" or in this case "unbecoming" offensive. That was political mumbo-jumbo to make Romney look like a knucklehead. At it's worst, maybe you can say that it's chauvinistic or patronizing but by no means is it offensive. Racial, ethnic or religious epithets -- on the other hand -- are.
