wow. that's all i can say.
last night saw tool live at the breslin center in e.lansing. THIRD ROW, just left of center stage!! my best friend from high school is a total tool freak (this was his 12th show), and he camped out for tickets, and did he ever get good ones. we were probably about 12 feet from adam (the guitarist) and 20 feet from maynard (we were slightly left from the center of the stage).
the show was just freaking amazing. i'm not a huge tool fan....i listen to their music casually, have a couple cds, etc, but seeing it live was just incredible. the band is so powerful and they take such an interesting approach to performing that the show is just very moving.
the visual experience of the show just f---s with your mind too. all the crazy modern art, etc.
i think the most incredible moment was the second to last song in the show, when the drummer from mesuggah (their opener), came out and did a 10-minute drum jam with tool's drummer, danny. justin, the bassist, was playing some, and maynard and adam both added little guitar parts, but it was basically two drumers just going absolutely f---ing nuts on the drums.
anyway, the show just rocked, start to finish (although mesuggah sucks, imo). the crowd, especially down in the front where we were, was great. it was mostly people who really cared about the music and wanted to rock with tool, not some obnoxious posers who wanted to see and be seen
so yeah, good times.
