I moved my computer to a new case, but I'm having trouble getting it to turn on. I plugged in the power switch header into the right place on the mobo (KR7A) and when I turn on the power supply a little light on the mobo turns on, meaning that power is indeed working. Yet, when I press the power switch, it doesn't turn on.

What do I need to do to get it to work?

Ok You connected the Power Supply to the mother board... But did you also connect the case to the motherboard/ Also please be more specific. Do you have an AT case, an ATX etc

I'm not sure what the type of case has to do with it, but if you must know, it's a midtower ATX.

I'm not sure how you can connect the case to the mobo, unless you mean if the headers are plugged in or if it's screwed to the the mobo plate. I tried all the headers the first time, but that didn't work, so I just have the one labeled "power sw" plugged into what I believe and what the manual says is the right place. And the mobo is screwed into the case.

I know a lot about computers, except for this one step in building it. I seem to have problems everytime at this stage. Oh, and I do have all the components of my computer plugged in, all cd drives, hard drives, and pci cards. Would any of those prevent a startup?

Take a screw driver with a plastic handle, hold it by the handle and touch the two pins at the same time where you would have plugged your cose into, if it doesn't boot try some of the other pins. If none of the pins boot the computer up then we have a different problem. If if does boot up you are not connecting Your power Switch correctly yo the motherboard. Sorry but I am having trouble understanding what you mena by headers.

If those devices worked before there is no reason why they wouldn't work now, unless they were damaged someone in the transition.

What color light turns on? If its green check the seating of the cpu, take it out and put it back in, as well sa the memory

sounds asif the led on the mobo detecting the p.s. is active is on and the pucshbutton to the header is either defecive, has the incorrect polarity, or is on the wrong header altogether.

do they even make AT power supplies anymore? Most boards consumers purchase are in the ATX form

hmm...ok...can I just try to get the "power sw" header on or do I need the other headers to be on before the computer will turn on.

The led is yellow. From the manual: it's a standby power indicator. When the =5VSB supplies power to the mobo, this LED indicator will light up.

By the way how can you tell which side of the header is the plus and which is the negative?

All you should need is the power switch connected. Since the yellow light is on that means the power supply is connected to the motherboard. Try the screw driver thing to jump start the computer. Once the green light goes on you know where to plug the power switch into. All that the yellow light means is that the your power supply is connected to the motherboard, that doesn't mean it will boot or anything.

I don't see too many new AT power supplies around but I do see alot of people having troubles with them.

Try this first.. Unconnect all devices (hard drives, cd roms) and just plug in your video card.. Connect the video card to the monitor and turn on the computer. Check and see if your bios screen comes up.. If it does, then it has something to do further down the line, i.e. CD ROM, Hard Drives.. If it doesn't, then it could be your RAM, Your Processor, your MOBO, or something is shorting your mobo (metal touching metal.)

Check all your IDE devices and make sure that they aren't plugged in incorrectly (remember, red stripe on the connector means it belongs closest to the power plug.)

If you have more than one stick of ram in there, take them both out, and put one in and try to start the computer.. if it doesn't work, take that one out and put the other in, and so on.. Just to test and see if the ram was damaged in the building of the computer. Finally, make sure your CPU is seated correctly, maybe it got loose while installation or soemthing.

headers mean the little pins on the mobo =)

ok...here's an update.

Somehow I got it to not be on standby. Now, when I turn the power supply on, it flickers, kinda like a car trying to start up, but can't. The LED fans flicker and there's a sparking sound from the power supply.

The funny thing is when I pull out the plug that goes from the power supply to the mobo and plug it in half way, the computer will power up fully, but i don't think it's booting up.

Any ideas? I'm getting really fed up with it and I'm afraid I either killed the PS or the mobo. Any way to check? Is there anyone who I could go to to get it fixed should I choose to give up?

Okokok...I'm A DUMBASS.

So, I figured out everything. Turns out that it wasn't starting up because the mobo was grounded since it was touching the mobo plate. Grrr, so I figured out how to pull out the tray and installed the RISERS, and now it works wonders. I apologize for my stupidity and I submit to your ass kicking.
