I need to get a heatsink for my AMD Athlon XP 1600+. I am not really into this area and I need some of your help! Heh. I was looking at this one (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=CPU+FAN%7CHHC%2D001+PURE) but I am not sure. I want one that is good and will keep the cpu cool, but that is also a good price. Thanks in advance.

That's the heatsink I'm using, on my AXP1800+ OC to 1.73GHz. Does a great job of cooling, only downside is it's a little expensive. Also, the 60mm Delta is LOUD. If you're looking for quiet, this isn't the heatsink for you. I took mine off and put a 60mm to 80mm adapter with an 80mm fan on and it's a LOT quieter. Only added to the cost, tho...

The sk-6 is awesome....period.
My friend has that heatsink (sk-6), a 1900+ and a slower fan and it still keeps it around 43C-47C.

I have an AMD XP 1800+ and havent overclocked it (yet). This is what I use Volcano 7+ (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm) I like the switch on it (higher fan speed for gaming). Its also a little pricey but have heard good stuff about it. If you aren't going to be overclocking your CPU then don't go dropping a ton of cash on a heat sink. But if you are. Get something good. Just my opinion.

I have exactly the same one as TSCHLES. It works perfectly well and a bit pricey. The Volcano 9 is slightly cheaper and does its work well too. Good luck. :D

I have an SK-6 too except I mounted an 80mm fan on it instead of a 60. Just did it diagonally and it works fine.

the slk-800 is the best performing heatsink on the market right now. I have the sk6 and the hhc-001 and I can say the slk800 is the best performer, bar none. Its a little pricey though. Best place I found is www.case-mod.com

I just got the volcano 9 in the mail.. now I'm waiting for my Arctic Silver 3 (I'm too lazy to actually drive to Fry's and get some..)
hopefully this combo will help my temps.. (Idle currently running at 50c) Thank god I don't hit full load too often or I'd fry my proc.. heh
