I'm passing along this question for a colleague of mine. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Everyone,
I disabled the rpc services on my win2k system, which broke just about anything administrative including windows update, printing, and the properties dialog box under administrative tools. Because of this, I can't turn it back on through the GUI. Does anyone know how to get it going again via the command line or via regedit?
Thanks --Greg

Thanks!

It appears as though your friend is going to need to make use of the Recovery Console! :P

To access the Recovery Console, start the computer with the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press R to repair, and then press C (Windows 2000 only) to start the Windows Recovery Console. Select the appropriate number for the Windows installation that you want to repair, and then type the administrator password. If the administrator password does not exist, just press ENTER.

In the Recovery Console, type:

Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start

followed by ENTER (obviously) and then type 'exit' to leave the console and restart the system.

Hopefully this should do the trick! :thumb:
