Rather strange question but... I'm looking for a nice home Dolby Digital Receiver.. or DTS. BUT it has to be in Silver.. and painting doesn't count.
I know that Kenwood makes one, the VR-4700, but its rather pricy. Anyone know anymore out there?

You're the first person I've seen ask for the color of the receiver and not the sound quality. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
Very few silvers out there. There is a darker marble-ish one from a company named KRELL if you can afford it. You can also try NAD, I *think* they have a off-white one. Better yet, go to your local magazine rack and look through the home theater mags.

There is a cheaper version of that Kenwood in the same color I believe, but it's older. I seem to remember the model being something like VR-2XXX, the x's being some combinatin of 0's and 9's.
I'd have to agree with biz though, buying a receiver b/c of color seems like a BAD idea.

If you don't mind the DVD/CD player being built into the receiver, Panasonic and Sony both make them (SC-HT80 and DAV-S300, respectively). These are complete systems that come with speakers and sub. The Panasonic speakers are even silver, but the Sonys are black.

Check Sony's web page. I think they have a VERY high dollar reciever in brushed aluminum.

I have a silver Yamaha Receiver minus the DTS.I bought 1 year prior to DTS. When hooked up to a Neusch All Tube Pre-Amp the sound is amazing... I've seen some custom receivers in Silver supporting DTS, but those are in the $5k-$10k a price only a true audiophile would spend.
The model you are probably looking for is
the Yamaha RX-V1GL http://www.yamaha.com/images/rxv1gl.gif
Here is the back enuff connections? http://www.yamaha.com/yec/images/rxv1bak.jpg
Flagship Home Theater Receiver Features Digital ToP-ART Design, Dolby Digital, DTS, Digital Matrix 6.1, DTS ES, Cinema DSP, and Tri-Field Processing and on screen control.

It may a bit overkill such a nice receiver with a crappy little remote...

NAD has their Silverline Series receiver but frankly, if you're asking about it in a Deals forum, you probably can't afford it =)
Kenwood seems to be the only company that makes economical receivers with aluminum finish. All other companies reserve it for their flagship or elite models.

The Sony DAV-S300 is a DTS receiver/dvd player combo and it matches the silver from their WEGA tv series.

I know buying a receiver by color sounds bad, but it is my understanding that (now-a-days) silver is reserved for elite models, so it is rather safe to say that you're not getting a terrible receiver.
As for the reason, as someone has guessed...silver is "in"..and I just bought a 36 Vega, and coupled it with a silver DVD (Panasonic RV30Silver) and a Samsung VCR (also in silver), so now I trying to find a matching receiver unit. I might sound strange, but the system looks amazing in silver.
I've checked out Sony's site for their elite silver reciever, but couldn't find it. But I've seen a picture of it in a magazine. Anyone got a model #? And the DVD/Receiver combos don't do a pure system justice when you have everything else, so the Panasonic & Sony combos are out.
I'm checking into the Yamaha RX-V1GL right now. Thanks for everyone's help. And more info???? heheh

So you bought a 36" Wega and you're worried about spending $1000 on the Kenwood VR-4700?
I don't understand.

Yeah, that does match the Vega, but it is a home theater in a box system, and I want component equipment b/c I have everything else.

Yeah, I got the Vega, but the $1000 on the receiver is alot when you consider that I bought the Vega for $1200 including stand, new. It was a pricing mistake, but they had to honor it. Lucky!

The Sony DAV-S300 is a great system(my friend has one and for the price its a great value) but not be deceived the woofer is NOT powered (the juice from the woofer coms from the receiver) tus resulting in drops in the highs when the bass hits hard
